The End of A (Perceived) Nightmare (Hopefully!!!) - Erica Carlson

The End of A (Perceived) Nightmare (Hopefully!!!) - Erica Carlson
December 21, 2014 -

“In choosing our response to circumstance, we powerfully affect our circumstance. When we change one part of the chemical formula, we change the nature of the results.” This quote has been quite important in getting me through the last few weeks. I’m now coming off two competitions that I did not get the result I wanted (or feel I should be happy with) and I’ve been having a rough go, mentally, with training as well. It’s tough to always keep this in mind but really valuable. Both competitions felt like quite the mental beat...

The Nightmare Before Sendmas (Hopefully!!!) - Erica Carlson

About a week ago, we had the first Alberta Climbing Association (ACA) comp of the year and it was hosted by my home gym, Calgary Climbing Centre. These comps are always a blast and are very well organized. For two whole weeks there will be exactly one year after the injury of breaking and reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligament in my right knee. Extremely demanding year. Year of hard work, incredible dedication, determination and enormous will to fight for a return to the sport, to climbing.

March 2014: Staying Motivated - Will Roderick

March 2014: Staying Motivated - Will Roderick

I have kept training hard over the past few weeks, and I’ve had the chance to experience a huge variety in setting styles through climbing at the Stanford gym, the Planet Granite gyms, the Touchstone gyms, and the Hangar 18 gyms. The diversity in styles not only has improved my climbing and setting, but also given me a better perspective on climbing more generally. I’m gaining a better appreciation of how to improve and how to help others improve. I’m beginning to recognize more and more the importance of climbing for more than just doing harder and harder climbs....
