Hound Ears '14! - Francesca Metcalf

Hound Ears '14! - Francesca Metcalf
October 13, 2014 -  Francesca Metcalf

Last weekend was the first competition of this year's Triple Crown Bouldering Series, which was held at Hound Ears in North Carolina. Hound Ears is only open to the public one day per year, and this leg of the series was canceled last year, so it had been two years since I got to climb at this awesome crag. For that reason I was pretty excited for this competition since it's at one of my favorite climbing areas.

One Week in Osp - Chris Muench

During the last couple of weeks, aside from some other routes, I have mainly tried "Chaos in Palumbia" (8c+) in Kochel. I could climb the route with one rest in the middle after "Blumen am Arsch der Hölle" (8a+), but the more I tried to send the whole thing, the more tired I got. Really needing some holiday, it was a perfect opportunity for me when Martin asked if I wanted to spend one week with him in Osp.

Being Strong is not Everything. - Markus Eder

Enable all power, crimpholds tight, grit your teeth, hold your breath–being strong. These are just a few of my secrets that help me to climb through the crux of hard routes. Maybe it is also the fact, that long downward movements with acceleration of 9.81 m/s²include a bit of uncertainty and I try to avoid this. The trip to the Peak District, England, showed me, that being strong is only half of the battle (meanwhile I already insist a the fact that power is the most important).

Fall temps have begun and project list is growing.  We've had several nights in the 20's and beautiful sunny days in the 50's and 60's. We have projects at DEKD, Sunny Valley, and the brand new zone that has yet to be named. I'm feeling strong, training hard and have been getting outside on rock after a long hot summer.

How could we describe the feeling of taking our first shower in over two months? Mmmm...Well yes ... We have just hit civilization in Greenland. These last 3 weeks has been very exciting in many ways! Adventurous climbing, a close polar bear encounter ( without anything to defend ourselves) and a very scary crossing back to Greenland which included a strong storm with snow and huge waves! On this kind of trip the adventure never seems to end until you are back under that hot shower. It does make the shower so much better!

Summer Climbing in the NW! - Joseph Gifford

I had yet another amazing summer this year filled with climbing adventures and good times but this time mostly in the NW. The summer really kicked off with the GoPro Mountain Games, and meeting up with the Texas crew in Vail. The Mountain Games were as always amazing, I got to see lots of friends that I usually only see at events like the world cup. It was great to see all the cool sports like slack lining; it was insane what those guys could do on basically on a thin trampoline. The world cup was epic as usual...
