I've finally come to the next step in my life, college and moving away from Austin Texas. I am now going to school in Portland Oregon at the University of Portland. So I packed up all my gear and got a sick hook up from Austin’s local Backwoods. They gave me some great gear before I left, that I use almost every day.

Portland is known to be the sister city of Austin, all the hipsters and weird stuff make me feel a little more at home. I’m excited because It’s also an entirely new climbing scene for me in Portland, I haven’t really done any rock climbing in the general north west area so I will have plenty of new projects to work on. I have mostly been going to The Circuit to train and riding my bike 7 miles there and 7 miles back to the university, the hill on the way back sucks but it gets my legs strong.

The Circuit climbing gym is a great bouldering facility for me to train in and they set some great climbs plus they have slack lines for me to practice my terrible balancing skills on. In the future a sick new Planet Granite is being built which will also be a great place for me to get rope strong in later on in the year. But so far I've met lots of great people in Portland that have been really nice, cool, and climb super strong.

I've climbed with Peter Dixon and Lisa Chulich, they both do competitions frequently so it’s nice to have some strong competition climbers to train with. So far I have only gone outdoor climbing once at a place called Broughton Bluff which is a super techy type style of climbing, Peter and I worked on a super hard sandbaggy 13c that’s just balancy and very low percentage moves all the way to the top, its definitely a good project to work on every once and awhile.

Portland has been a pretty cool place up to now besides the rain and hopefully I’ll get the chance to do some more outdoor in places like Smith Rock especially when the season comes around for it.
