Well, summer is in full swing. Colorado is the place to be as there are many amazing boulders to try and areas to climb at for those willing to brave the long hikes and sometimes terrifying weather. Climbing in the alpine is almost another genre all its own as it is never just "another day at the boulders." Squalls come on you hard and fast, talus is jagged and hard to negotiate, and the altitude has a way of ruining your day if you neglect to bring enough food and water. The car is not just an easy walk away either.

It's this alpine style bouldering that I love the most however; I can't get enough of that High Country gneiss. No other kind of rock so perfectly represents my style as gneiss does. It's often very steep, with incut holds and an emphasis on body tension. I go to great lengths  to surround myself with gneiss on a daily basis. I love the swirls. The angles call out to be climbed. This is why I search, and search again, hoping for more of it. Some of these searches have been successful, some not at all. One thing is constant though: it's always beautiful up there, squall or not. The hunt continues...
