The Mayan Calendar ends on the 21st Dec 2012… It is a little unclear exactly what will happen. As far as I can see their prophecy was not for the end of the world, but rather a time of renewal – A new error. One prophecy speaks of the return of Kukulkan (the snake deity), which they claim will bring about an age of spiritual enlightenment.
The shaman, Miguel Angel Vergara said ‘Kukulkan shines in the infinite. Kukulkan is the sacred energy beating in every atom. Kukulkan is the feathered serpent living in your heart forever.” - From the New York Times (August 19, 2012)
I have heard that after tough times of change and cleansing, “the Golden Age of the Maya” will begin… If this is true, bring on the tough times! I am excited to see what the transformation will take place and to experience the Mayan’s Golden Age.
It has been a long year, full of an insane amount of travel, many adventures and massive amount of learning… At the end of last year I packed up all my stuff in NZ, and have been on the road since, never staying anywhere for more than a few weeks at a time. It has been a lot of fun, but also exhausting… And, of course, the last adventure was the craziest of them all. Usually my trips are either focused on my own goals or an event, but this one was a very different trip. It was pure adventure.
Deep water soloing on the Marble Cathedrals in Patagonian Chile, an absolutely crazy idea of Sam Bié’s, somehow made sense to me when he mentioned it a few months back. So, without much thought or research, I booked my tickets… Before we knew it, Jon Cardwell, Sam and I were involved in what turned out to be a crazy 10 days of venturing into the unknown. It turned into an epic just getting our chosen destination. Several times we were seconds away from giving up, when some stroke of luck got us a small step closer and refueled our motivation not to simply give up… Considering the epicness of the entire trip, it was incredible that we even made it to the Marble Cathedral at all.
Unfortunately, due to weather, time restraints and several other unforeseen issues, the amount of climbing we managed to do was minimal. However, we did discover an amazing new area with a massive amount of potential. Keep an eye on the Adidas site for the full report on this trip and some amazing photos…
Now, I am back in the USA. I have chosen to base myself in Colorado for the winter… I am excited to have a place I can call home, at least for a short period of time. A place where I can explore the desert, and where I have found a small but dedicated group of climbers to help me learn about a part of climbing I have not experiment with before – Training. For the first time in my life I actually have a program to follow and people with a lot of experience to help me progress. I am excited to try this approach and see what gains I can make through focusing on training for a period of time. Thanks to Rob and Ben for helping me take the step to commit to training and the community here for welcoming me into their lives.
Maybe this is my transformation… My new beginning, only time will tell, but my psyche is high. The last has been pretty amazing, so the Golden Age is going to have to be fantastic!
