Part 2 of My Summer Vacation - Jill Kuzman

Part 2 of My Summer Vacation - Jill Kuzman
August 26, 2013 -

First jump off Brento, I'm terrified all over again. New exit point. Further to fly to the landing. Different wind conditions. I walk down to the exit point after gearing up. I grab one of the ropes set up for safety. And manage to slip on the polished rock. I hold onto the rope, but drop my helmet and goggles. Slow motion, they bounce twice and disappear off the side of the cliff. Bad sign?! Who knows. Just a little fear icing on my fear cake.I start frantically rambling about how I can't possibly fly without goggles. I'm not...

Free soloing a vertical cliff at 350 meters elevation is not where you will normally find me climbing. The difference between free climbing and free soloing is that, while free climbing you have protection and a rope so if you fall the fatality risk is actually very low; whereas, if you fall doing the latter, the fatality risk is almost certain. What keeps me from feeling inclined to free solo are the uncontrollable aspects of the sport. While climbing, it is beautiful to feel in complete control of yourself and your movements – to feel aware of your surroundings...

Team Norco Intl. - Crankworx, Whistler, BC
August 23, 2013 -  Jill kintner

Crankworx is one of the most anticipated events of the year, drawing in world-wide talent from every mountain bike discipline and huge crowds. Each year Crankworx seems to grow and improve, so The 10th anniversary of Crankworx was no exception, with live streaming, more events, and continued success. Tons of events span the 10 days of excitement; from slope style, to downhill, slalom, pump track, whip-off contest, photo and media contests, open bike park riding, as well as village activities, good food, and parties,,, there is never a dull moment in Whistler.

A lot happens within a day. Sometimes good, sometimes bad, and sometimes ugly.Where are my bags?– *WHIRRL CLICK*Was that the conveyor belt stopping? No way… this is about to happen isn’t it? I managed to make it through three different airline flights, bus and train rides to lose my bags on the last one? Oh look someone I can ask!

Our human capacity to push past suffering through sheer motivation and willingness to bite piercing pain ceases to amaze me. I experienced the peak of my exposures to epic adventures August 12. My plan to climb a hard multipitch route in the Dolomites, Italy was born from an Adidas dinner-table discussion between Reinhold Messner and me. December, 2011, we are sitting at a fancy restaurant and Messner ecstatically flips the wine menu over and draws a pen from his pocket. Enthusiastically he maps out the Tre Cime Oveste peak and stars a section at the quarter-mark up the mountain...

Go with the Flow, Fight the Force - Colette McInerney

Go with the Flow, Fight the Force - Colette McInerney

Turns out I’m a pretty terrible procrastinator. I’ve decided that’s why I’m drawn to climbing, production and traveling. These are things that demand you to be in the moment, make decision without hesitation, trust your gut instinct and inevitably learn from the fuckups they sometimes lead to.I spent my entire summer practicing positive thought, not taking anything too seriously and letting life pull my focus in the right direction for this moment in time. I tried to make sure I didn’t do the same thing I do every summer on the Western Slope, which is obsess about a rock...
