About me
Im Daniel Schaefer and since the 1990´s all my life is about mountainbiking. At the beginning I cruised with my 3-gear bike, where I deinstalled mudgards and carrier after some weeks, around my home trails in Chiemgau. Around the age of 12 I got my first real mountainbike. For three years I had a Univega Alpine Pro. My first CC Race, Trials, Hillclimbing, River Crossings, visiting my first MTB WorldCup in Kirchzarten and many hours on my bike made me want more and more.
After seeing a Dual Race, I guess in Kaprun, I noticed my interest in that aswell. It came to my mind that behind pedaling, training and endurance I payed more attention to flow, technique, traction and drive. I felt really attracted by that.
One of the Univega Team Bikes pushed me more and more into this direction but I still sticked to my CC training and races. With my following Fully Bike I also competed in races like the Swiss Bike Masters or Dolomiti Superbike. I also started to do some Tandem-Races and visited Bike Festivals like at the Garmisch Classics, where I found out my passion for Dual Racing. There was aswell a highspeed contest down the Ski Jump track where I also competed with the tandem. My interests changed more and more and I finally switched to do Downhill at that time. I still raced in the Univega team by then. That was also the way that brang me to La Palma because Univega had a test centre there and they needed some guides.
I finished my education at the ,Telecom‘ and took one year salary-free holiday to find out what I really want in life. I used this year to go to La Palma and immediately cancelled my job at home. This was around the year 2000 and since then I earn my money as a mountainbiker for photo- and video productions, bike technique guide, bike guide, tester of bike material, racer and builder of several mountainbike tracks and trails.
I also got to meet many people, trails in different countries and learned to appreciate the nature that we can thank for everything. Thanks nature.
