North Cascade Alpine Climbing
In September, we had incredible weather in the North Cascade Mountains of Washington. My partner, Andres and I climbed some awesome alpine routes. I highly recommend taking a journey to these spectacular mountains.
One the places I love best is Boston Basin, in the North Cascades National Park. A prominent mountain there is Forbidden Peak, which we had an excellent time climbing, in optimal conditions. The route we chose to try has now become an all time favorite of mine, the North Ridge of Forbidden. It is super interesting and aesthetic, with a fairly safe glacial approach, awesome rock quality on the ridge and an amazing summit view. From the low camp it was a solid fourteen hour day. You can refer to guidebooks in the area for beta.
What made this climb even more enjoyable was the change of footwear from my heavy ice climbing/glacier boots to the sweet lightweight, yet ultra dependable rubber of the 5.10 Warhawks. These are quality approach shoes; perfect for this type of adventure. They gave me agility and confident movement on the very exposed, long, steep ridge line. Not to mention comfort and style! SInce the Warhawks are very lightweight shoes, it was no big deal to bring them along. They also make a great camp shoe, it feels so good to get the boots off. Thanks 5.10! Thanks to the big beautiful mountains of the North Cascades, and to you Andres!
