I finally Jumped Le Pleureur! - Ellen Brennan

I finally Jumped Le Pleureur! - Ellen Brennan
September 05, 2013 -

3704m with a 2000m flight ! And I would be lying if I said it is an easy jump to get.Last fall, Laurent and I tried to reach the summit of Le Pleureur alone with just some beta from a friend. “Ya sure, it’s easy, just climb the ladder, follow the trail, then climb the arête.” Sounded easy enough. But we were wrong. After following a ‘trail’ for 4 hours, we found ourselves scrambling up some shaley exposed face, and we were not even half way there. We knew the hike should take around 4-5 hours, so we...

Youth World Championship!!! - Delaney Miller

Youth World Championship!!! - Delaney Miller
August 26, 2013 -

Last weekend I competed in the youth world championship in Victoria, Canada. It was a fantastic comp! It was an emotional, exciting week and I feel so blessed to have experienced it! I stayed with the US team in the Victoria University dorms, which were not far from the climbing wall. It was incredible to really connect and bond with all the other US team members. I will never forget the memories and relationships that were formed! Before the competition began, I was honestly in a very depressed mood. I was upset to be leaving my beloved home, friends,...

Part 2 of My Summer Vacation - Jill Kuzman

Part 2 of My Summer Vacation - Jill Kuzman
August 26, 2013 -

First jump off Brento, I'm terrified all over again. New exit point. Further to fly to the landing. Different wind conditions. I walk down to the exit point after gearing up. I grab one of the ropes set up for safety. And manage to slip on the polished rock. I hold onto the rope, but drop my helmet and goggles. Slow motion, they bounce twice and disappear off the side of the cliff. Bad sign?! Who knows. Just a little fear icing on my fear cake.I start frantically rambling about how I can't possibly fly without goggles. I'm not...

Expanding the Comfort Zone: The Scariest Moment of My Life - Sasha DiGiulian

Free soloing a vertical cliff at 350 meters elevation is not where you will normally find me climbing. The difference between free climbing and free soloing is that, while free climbing you have protection and a rope so if you fall the fatality risk is actually very low; whereas, if you fall doing the latter, the fatality risk is almost certain. What keeps me from feeling inclined to free solo are the uncontrollable aspects of the sport. While climbing, it is beautiful to feel in complete control of yourself and your movements – to feel aware of your surroundings...

A lot happens within a day. Sometimes good, sometimes bad, and sometimes ugly.Where are my bags?– *WHIRRL CLICK*Was that the conveyor belt stopping? No way… this is about to happen isn’t it? I managed to make it through three different airline flights, bus and train rides to lose my bags on the last one? Oh look someone I can ask!
