The 2012 Vail World Cup experience was amazing! When one thinks of Vail they might think of skiing and fur coat shops, when I think of Vail I think of rad competitive climbing and expensive pasta. Last year the wall was at a prime location near the center of the village and at the foot of the mountain, (Mt. unknown) and this year it was near the end of the village next to a soccer field….not ideal for spectating but it all worked out perfect in the end. Good job to all the setters, USA Climbing and comp coordinators...
Monster Energy Specialized's Australian dynamic duo of Sam Hill and Troy Brosnan returned to World Cup racing this week after domination the Australian national series over the winter. Brosnan finished in 8th place on a track that catered to his pedalling strength, just over 5 seconds back. Hill crossed the line in 11th place, .8 seconds behind his teammate.
Greg Minnaar wins the UCI World Cup Downhill season opener aboard his Fox/Shimano equipped carbon V-10 with an exhilarating run that had the hill alive with the roar of thousands of fans including the oneLife crew and the Minnaarmy! Steve Peat came in 15th and Josh Bryceland 21st on this improved, pedaling course in Greg’s hometown of Pietermaritzburg, South Africa.
Everyone has felt the pressure of the last minute pack job. It doesn't matter how much spare time you leave to pack, it always comes down to the wire getting spare parts organized and bikes taped up in their boxes. We are leaving tomorrow morning for the 15 hour trip from Sydney to Durban, RSA. Got all day:), so I figured, plenty of time to write a blog:)
