haveronglad u had a great trip!
Last March Jamie Emerson and I were invited to conduct the initial route setting at new climbing gym in St. Louis. David Chancellor, along with a group of talented partners teamed up to create what I like to call an interactive art project. Climb Soill is, in my opinion in a league of its own when it comes to climbing facilities. The colors are vibrant, the building is rustic on the outside, a skeleton of an old power plant, yet the gym inside is clean. When we first entered, I felt like a young child,...
It’s that time of year again! Fall has finally arrived in the Southeast – mornings and nights are actually chilly, humidity levels have reached a bearable level and will only continue to drop with the temperatures, and leaves are showing signs of color. However one of the biggest signs that “the season” is about to kick off down in this neck of the woods is: the TRIPLE CROWN BOULDERING SERIES! This annual event is one of the largest of its kind in the United States and every year it raises thousands of dollars for the Southeastern...
The third Triple Crown, held at Horse Pens 40, was a great finale to a great circuit this year. The weather, which many were complaining was too hot, was perfect in my opinion, and I was psyched to crush some awesome problems.
On September 27th me and Laura crammed our temporary belongings into the compact Saturn/Benz and began the trek out East. Nearly 30 hours later, after driving across no man's land, we arrived at our home base in Chattanooga. Once we had winded down from the drive we quickly spurted another 5 hours Northeast to the first leg of the Triple Crown Bouldering Series in Boone, North Carolina. The weather was on the fringe of disaster. Regardless of the treacherous conditions, we along with many other brave soldiers decided to stick it out. The day of the competition was miserably...
Two days ago in Boulder it was 75 degrees and sunny, now theres 8 inches of snow on the ground. For me that means winter has come and its time to start trying hard boulders! On November 1st I will be making my way down to the south to compete in the last leg of the Triple Crown at Horse Pens 40. After that I will be hanging out in Chattanooga for the rest of the month, working and climbing. There is plenty of climbing for me to do down there so I should be kept pretty busy!...
Last weekend was the first leg of the Triple Crown Bouldering Series. The first stop was Hound Ears in Banner Elk, NC. The event started off with registration and vendor fair Friday night. Everyone was super psych on the cold temps for the comp. More and more people were asking questions and giving praises of the new Five Ten shoes. The next morning we woke up before the rooster could crow and setup the demo fleet at Hound Ears. It was super cold and all of a sudden it started to snow. The topouts were completely soaked and they...
