The life of a Working Athlete: Juggling Climbing, Work, Training, Overtraining, Rest and Life. - Melissa Strong

The life of a Working Athlete: Juggling Climbing, Work, Training, Overtraining, Rest and Life. - Melissa Strong
August 11, 2014 -  Melissa Strong

Like many others out there we are the working bees in the climbing/life community.  There are plenty of us who have to work to climb, who are super talented climbers finding the difficult balance of working, life, training and climbing.

Yoga Challenge Training - Jill Kuzman

Yoga Challenge Training - Jill Kuzman
April 20, 2014 -

Breaking my femur in 2012 was not my finest moment in life. I took a lot of good lessons from that experience though. #1 Doing a TARD over off a cliff is a stupid thing to do. #2 If you break it, you better fix it. There was a lot I was limited from doing during my recovery. Mostly impact activities. I needed something to get back in shape and I didn't want to wait until I was cleared for running. This is when I found yoga. Yoga not only became a challenging and strength building activity in my...

Rockies Rampage!!!! - Erica Carlson
January 15, 2014 -

It’s been a while since I’ve written last, I’m sorry I’ve been ignoring you blog world! ;) Well, I have some exciting news for you all... My hard work is starting to pay off! Competing in the Rockies Rampage Climbing Competition, hosted by Elevation Place, in Canmore, AB, I had my best finish so far this season. I was able to finish second place in an increasingly stiff field!Currently, I’m sitting with a 5th place and 4th place finish from 2 comps earlier this season. Most recently, in December, I placed 3rd at The Hive Bouldering Comp and now...

Balancing Training and Over-Training - Shannon Russell

Balancing Training and Over-Training - Shannon Russell
November 25, 2013 -  Shannon Russell

Being part of Team Vertical World means that I have the option of going to practice to climb and train with my coach any day of the week. This is an incredibly awesome situation, except when I get obsessive about training. I have this issue, as do many other climbers I know, with always feeling like I need to be doing some drill or workout at all times. It's a problem that too many climbers (especially youth athletes) have which can cause some pretty bad injuries that take a long time to recover from. For me, it's...

Autumn Coaching in Fryer Belgium - Michel Kleinjan

Autumn Coaching in Fryer Belgium - Michel Kleinjan
September 27, 2013 -  Michel Kleinjan

Just back from a two day coaching trip to Belgian climbing area Fryer. Two years ago Tim Reuser (19 years) tried 2 hard routes in this very hard graded climbing area. Shingen, 8b+ and Namche Bazar 8b were too hard that time. We went back to explore the grade again. We had 1 full day and one morning to do both routes. As a coach it's my role to get the best out of a climber. In this particular case it came down to make sure Tim was able to focus 100% on the climbing of those routes. So...

25 Days of SCS 2013: Divisionals, Training Camp, and Nationals - Matt Grossman

25 Days of SCS 2013: Divisionals, Training Camp, and Nationals - Matt Grossman
July 16, 2013 -

After all season of training and comps I had these last 25 days to climb at divisionals, train, and then compete at nationals. This ropes season was my favorite of all of them. I had a fun time competing and training the whole way through. This ropes season was awesome and I cant wait to do it again (after bouldering season J).
