Last weekend I competed in SCS Adult Open Nationals at Movement Climbing and Fitness in Boulder, Colorado. I had a great time at nationals and I’m super excited that I made it on the podium for the first time at adult nationals placing third. I defiantly reached my goals and beyond at this competition.

This past weekend I stepped out of my comfort zone and competed in the SCS Nationals in Boulder, CO. Sport climbing is not something that is completely foreign to me, as I was exclusively a sport climber for 5 years of my youth, but it is definitely not something I do very often anymore. So, I knew that this event would be a challenge for me. Given that and the fact that it was at Movement, just a few blocks from my house, it was hard to resist.

This last weekend I competed in my second ever Open SCS nationals! When I competed last year I finished 8th place in sport climbing, and 3rd place in speed! Going into the comp this year I wanted to do better than last year, but the female category had some really tight competition.

I placed second behind the phenomenal climber Charlotte Durif, who is French, and earned myself the title of National Champ. The comp took place April 5th and 6th, and the 6th just happened to be my 18th birthday. Needless to say it was a good weekend. To be honest I still can’t believe how amazing it all went. I really did not feel prepared for this comp. I’ve had A LOT going on these past couple of months. As of last June, my family took in three foster kids. Back to ropes, tall stuff and endurance training. Since it was also Easter weekend I had and Friday off of school, so I went out to Austin early and went to Reimers Ranch and climbed some of that Texas limestone. The first thing I got on was Prototype which was my project for a long time when I was a wee boy. It feels much easier than I remember. I walked down and met some friends of mine from Houston at the House of Pain wall. I...

Stone Summit has yet again proven their awesomeness.Qualifiers was broken into two days. The first qualifier was a fairly easy route. Most of my age group (youth A) sent it. The second qualifier was significantly harder, but still not too bad. It was a jug haul until a slab section. Then it stepped it up again on the last six moves. I have one more week of school and finals, and then I’m done with my sophomore year of high school. I’ve been attending Peak Potential weekly, and have also been competing a LOT lately, basically having a comp every weekend for about a month. On April 21 I had a sport comp at a gym in New Rochelle called TRC, and the weekend after, I competed in the finals for a new series started by Deadpoint Magazine called the YBS (Youth Bouldering Series). After bouldering nationals, I felt a little burned out from training, so I took a needed brake to regain some motivation. My first day back afterwards was rough to say the least. I jumped right into rope climbing, since Adult SCS Nationals were in about a week and I was not ready at all. Let’s just say, by the end of the three hour session, I was...
