SCS Nationals – Its Not Over Until its Over - Matt Grossman

SCS Nationals – Its Not Over Until its Over - Matt Grossman
July 25, 2014 -

It was day 3 and I was on the wall in semi-finals at the USA Sport Climbing National Competition in Atlanta, Georgia. I was only a few moves from the highpoint for the day. I shook out for a few more seconds and then it was go time. I took a deep breath and made my next move to a crimp. Then the next and the next. I was feeling good, so I skipped the jug rest and kept going to reach the highpoint for the day. I was ready to get a few more clips to top...

Prepping For SCS Nationals - Zoe Steinberg

Prepping For SCS Nationals - Zoe Steinberg

The last six weeks have been pretty busy for me, so I apologize for not finding time to write this sooner. My last post was about SCS regionals in May, where I placed first. After that comp, I started what we call senior project at my school, which is basically where the seniors have to go get unpaid internships for three weeks and work 80 hours on-site to experience what the real world is like. I really enjoyed my internship, which was in neurology, but it definitely took up a lot more time than I’m used...

Training and Preparations - Nick Bradley

Training and Preparations - Nick Bradley
June 07, 2014 -

As always, the months before Nationals have been pretty slow, not very eventful, and consisting almost primarily of training and ramping up for the comp. Besides a few things, it's been training, training, training, and on the days that I'm "not" training I'm cross-training. But of course, the only thing worse than losing a national title is losing and knowing I could've done more to perform better, and I never want to experience that feeling. Training this year has been largely mental, not that I'm training to up my mental game, nor that training is un-motivating, but that I...

What a whirlwind the past couple months have been!  I competed at my first ABS Nationals, managed to do a route at the top of my lifetime list, and competed at my second SCS Nationals.

My sister was going to compete at open nationals this year and I was going to tag along. I decided that I was going to make a highlights reel so I emailed Krista & Kynan at USA Climbing to ask for a press pass. They instead put me in contact with Jordan with the Louder than Eleven crew. He gave me a great opportunity by making me a camera operator.

This year SCS Nationals was held at the Sender One gym in Santa Anna California. The gym was actually pretty cool, and very new, all the holds and walls were really textured so my feet stayed on the wall quite nicely, at the competition they also gave out a lot of free stuff so I stalked up on red bull and cliff bars to last me awhile. The format of the competition was flash format which is where you have two climbs A and B and you can watch anyone attempt the climb before you get on the wall....
