The Red River Gorge! Ah, those words are music to my ears! Ever since I visited the area 3 years ago, I have yearned to come back. Yet unfortunately, the prime seasons for climbing (spring & fall) seem to also be the prime seasons for learning. So I put in my time, and I have emerged as a Registered Nurse! Yahoo! So did I jump straight into a full time job? Heck no. I have my whole life to work! Instead, my boyfriend Tom and I packed up our lives into a tiny storage locker, and said goodbye to...
Well, my spring break came and went just like any other year, and I’d have to say it was definitely one of the better ones. After three days of playing extreme catch-up at school because of nationals, I was so psyched for a solid ten days of climbing at one of my favorite places in the world: the Red River Gorge. Given that bouldering season had just ended for me, the red was pretty much the perfect place to go to get myself motivated, as well as somewhat in shape for the next few months of sport...
From Red River Gorge Overhang Pumpfests... to scary Smith Rock Slabs... to the knobby walls of Pinnacles National Monument... or the story of My Climbing Adventures during the fall of 2012. Red River Gorge (November 9-12, Veteran's Day) After two two-hour flights and a two-hour drive we were finally back in Kentucky. The psych was high and I was ready to get to work! I had less than 4 days to climb, so the next morning we were up at 7:00 am... on a weekend (I know, crazy right?) to go climbing at the Bob...
I just arrived in the States after a three week stint in South America. There were two plans layed out for this trip, the first being the 10th annual Petzl Roc Trip. I was fortunate enough to have been part of developing the Piedra Parada for the event back in March. I joined a small group from Petzl and others from Argentina to discover, bolt and clean new lines in the various rock formations that surround the Piedra. That first trip, even though not my first visit to South America, taught me a lot about myself and the unique...
I finally got the chance to go back to Red River Gorge in October. My first trip at the Red was in my worst shape ever! Now this time I made sure to be in the best shape possible. With a few hard lines in mind and my top shape after training for the Atlanta world cup, I was pretty confident I would crush!! Little did I know, all that hard work for the Opening of our new gym in September and all of my non-stop training was a little much for my body! I could feel...
For the past few weeks I have been staying in the Red River Gorge of central Kentucky. The climbing here is world class and this season has seen a strong group of climbers come and destroy every hard route in the area. Seeing a large group of some of the top athletes in the world is truly inspirational. Every day at the crag we saw athletes like John Cardwell, Adam Ondra, Daniel Woods, Nick Duttle, and many other athletes from all over the world. The energy was really high at the crags and every one was motivated to send...
