Well, now that the winter has slowly come to an end, the warm weather is more than welcome for me here in Utah. This weekend I was able to head down to central Utah, Moab to be exact for some BASE jumping and summer-like atmosphere...and most importantly, trade-in my Dalbello ski boots for my Five Ten 5/10 Dome hiking shoes. I can not describe how amazing it felt to be back at Mineral Bottom, Castle Valley and the surrounding Moab red rock play land. I am ready to turn back around and head straight back there...
Some friends and I woke up early one chilly fall morning in Moab, Utah and started the climb up Ancient Art, a legendary desert tower. Climbing with a parachute on your back presents some unique challenges, and so does getting all the gear down with you too. But it all just adds to the fun. Combining the two sports, climbing and BASE jumping is a unique experience that I cherish greatly. It's all one big adventure and you are constantly being challenged. It's difficult but so very rewarding- and the feeling of standing on that tiny little pinnacle...
It was the middle of April at 7:55pm and I was preparing myself to pull the trigger on the most anticipated event of the year, I was one of the lucky 150 competitors that made the cut as the event sold out in less than 10 minutes. I knew this event was going to be something big as the race was still more than 4 months away! The reasoning for this anticipation is due to the classic venue and the trail system that the race course will be on. “The Whole Enchilada” is a combination of trails that start...
I just got back late last week from a ‘quick’ trip to Moab, Utah. A close lives down there and guides in the area so it was the perfect opportunity to check out something different! I was down there for the first time just over a year ago and absolutely loved it. Really what’s not to love.... Climbing, hot weather, beautiful scenery. Go check it out if you haven’t yet.... Although, maybe go in the spring or fall if you don’t feel like pulling dawn patrol!A few of the must do’s in Moab? Wicked Brew for a coffee, they...
The temperatures in Moab soar to over 105 degrees in the summer. Its brutal out there, but the ripping spring winds have calmed and I can't spend a nice day not jumping. Being a bartender, I work nights, so early morning jumps are a rarity for me. I've been hunting down the exit points with shorter hikes or shady hikes to try and avoid heat stroke and such. Ha.Over the last year, I've fallen in love with the low stuff. By low stuff, about 200 feet or less. One of my favorite low jumps is Looking Glass Arch, just...
Yesterday, I went to the crag tired tired tired and with very little motivation to do anything but cheer on my friend Paige on her proj. I was fairly content with the choice to chill--day after day has been filled with a relentless routine of field-work (aka milesssss of sand-slogging in the dark, with the company solely of my dogs and the clouds of gnats), music (2 gigs this past week!) and cramming in climbing. As well as not sending the usual life projects like laundry, paper-work and oh, I dunno, say eating and bathing?! (And if you climb...
