The White Salmon Narrows (Lower Lower White Salmon River) is finally open! Since the removal of Condit Dam last fall, boaters have been chomping at the bit to see what this now free flowing section has to offer.  Well, here it is.

This was my first full year representing and paddling for Five Ten and it could not have been a better year to have their support along with the rest of my sponsors.  The year of kayaking is soon going to start to come to a close for the Northeast of North America and I had a bunch of good footage piling up so I decided to make a short video highlighting all of the great waterfalls, waves, and creeks I was fortunate enough to have paddled this year. 

There are some places with magical associations and almost mythical character; Norway is one of those places to me. Endless sunlight, cliff-lined fjords, lightning blue rivers flowing from glaciers into the sea, it’s easy to see why. Every spring I make the pilgrimage to California like many other paddlers looking for smooth granite and overnight runs with friends. This spring was a little different than most. With a marginal snow pack and high temps, the rivers were running and high Sierra runs were in much earlier than usual. The run off was already more than half over and most of the snow pack had disintegrated. 25 years ago to bag a cutting edge first D in kayaking all I needed was to have a crack crew of boaters a taste for adventure and be able to figure out the put in and take out bridges and set your shuttle. 15 years ago we would break out the chainsaws and find tributaries of creeks that required days or even weeks of cleaning to open up a runnable path through the waterfalls and rapids to nab the first descent. One day in Buena Vista Co, Demshitz, Jed Selby and Mathieu Dumoulin loaded up in Orange Bitch and headed to Durango Co for 2 days of straight charging. We ended up doing 4 creek runs, a playboat session and drank 100 beers. Some great times with demshitz!!!
