For whitewater paddlers in the Northwest, the Upper Wind River Festival kicks off the season as the first downriver race of the year. Paddlers, full of nervous energy, show up wondering where they will stack up, and if their winter-time training will pay off. A part of the Western Whitewater Championship Series, the festival features a 3 mile downriver race for all river-craft (kayak, raft and cataraft) through various class IV rapids: various boulder gardens, ledge drops, slides.

Hood. It takes a lot of rain or a fast snowmelt in the winter/spring months to bring the water level up. With no gauge to check the level, it's hard to catch when it's in, which is usually only once or twice a season. Earlier this year, it rained for 4 days straight, and we rallied south along highway 35 to see the river at a perfect flow. Enjoy the photos, however, apologize for the lack of on-water pictures...

It was my first time in a Dark Horse Comp and I had plenty of fun! there was some nice problems and every one were super friendly! Actually, I feel in pretty good shape! and I think I climbed really well that day! I made it to finals being 2nd in qualification. Unfortunately, I didn't feel the first problem in any way.. we had to turn the corner of the wall and reach for two holds on a volume, I tried it a couple ways but none felt...

In the winter months when the rivers are frozen over or its just too cold to paddle, I find myself spending a little more time on my bike. That was the case today... thirty degrees, frosty, with a little bit of ice on the roads. Determined to get some exercise, we made it out to ride some local trails. This was my first chance to really try out my Five Ten Hellcat SPD's; My Hellcats kept me nice and warm while providing BOTH sticky rubber and SPD compatibility.
