turdsdude your first draw is backclipped.
New season same location. Newlin. It's ridiculous what I'll do for good rock. The last three weekends I've been making the weekly commute to the Wet Wet Mountains from Boulder to climb on that buttery gneiss. It's just that good. Besides the rock the ambience is unbeatable. Smells of rich mahogany and leather-bound books. Newlin still has a few things left to be done in its many nooks and crannies. One such nook yielded the new classic, "The Passion," named in honor of Easter (and Cameron and my sins). Check it out in the latest episode of Max's "The...
Having made a few quick trips to Red Rocks, NV over the past few years, I have always been well aware of the vast potential that the area holds, especially for hard bouldering. When I ventured back to the Las Vegas area for the month of February this year, I couldn’t help but wonder why it took me so long to return. Sunny, crisp days in the dead of winter with a massive supply of intriguing sandstone just a stones throw from one of the liveliest cities in America. Pretty much perfect. Upon arriving I...
Its probably a bit late for a 2012 recap, but with most of North America still in the grip of winter, I figured those of us who live in snowy states need a reminder of what it is like to climb in a t-shirt!
One of my favorite ways of charting progress is by returning to projects that I'd cleaned and tried in the past and finding that they're all-of-a-sudden doable. Colorado is where I learned to climb and Colorado is the place I've explored the most in the pursuit of things to climb. On more than one occasion my eye for boulder problems has exceeded my abilities at that moment in time. I always leave humbled but I don't forget these boulders. I bide my time, get stronger, and have another crack at them. One such boulder is a very steep prow...
I've never been one for sitting still. Staying in one place bores me, makes me antsy. I'm never content to just climb in the gym waiting for the next big trip. Every opportunity I have I want to be out climbing, exploring, brushing, hiking, driving, MOVING. The itch to move was especially strong this October. I finally got the opportunity to check out a new, amazing area that my friends, Jamie Emerson, Collin Horvat, and Jesse Brown, had been raving about and traveling to: Devil's Kitchen. The Kitchen lies smack dab in the middle of Wyoming's Big Country and...
Summer in Colorado offers a willing climber WAY too many options for where to go and what to try on any given day. Do I go to Mt. Evans and try the old classics? Or do I go to Lincoln lake and test my piece there? Also, there are still plenty of options for a little exploration... As it has the last few Julys my attention has been focused on new boulders in one of my favorite places on Earth: Rocky Mountain National Park. The seemingly endless talus of Chaos Canyon is home to countless untouched, quality boulders as...
