Two days of epics in the Ozarks. Who would have thought so much adventure could happen in such a short amount of time? After all this was just a spur of the moment kind of thing. At least for me it was. After the Capital City Crux competition in Austin some of the Dallas crew were talking about Arkansas. I was excited about my weekend of nothing when they invited me to come with them. Going to Arkansas to test myself against that sweet sandstone sounded much more fun than doing nothing at home. After convincing...
Well, I finally made it outside again, this time to Joe’s Valley. This was my first bouldering trip since 2010 and overall I am pretty excited about the experience. It was great to get outside, climb hard and increase my motivation for the rest of the year. Warming up - Jelly Bean - V1
Recently, I went up to Matthew’s Winter Park. The area up there has mainly two boulders; the Hillside Boulder and the Millennium Boulder. As I went up to this new area, I only had one boulder in mind. This boulder is called Bambi. Bambi is an amazing roof in Matthew’s Winter Park. This boulder consists of multiple big moves through a steep roof. The redpoint crux is a long move to a fairly shallow two finger pocket. After I climbed through the pocket, I climbed through a technical slab to top it out. I was super psyched...
One of my favorite ways of charting progress is by returning to projects that I'd cleaned and tried in the past and finding that they're all-of-a-sudden doable. Colorado is where I learned to climb and Colorado is the place I've explored the most in the pursuit of things to climb. On more than one occasion my eye for boulder problems has exceeded my abilities at that moment in time. I always leave humbled but I don't forget these boulders. I bide my time, get stronger, and have another crack at them. One such boulder is a very steep prow...
Had a great weekend climbing at The Fins (Idaho) in my new Dragons. I have not worn Five Tens in over 15 years. They were killer! We had an amazing trip with lots of sending. The Dragons performed so well. They fit great, were super sticky, and fit in the pockets really well, which is such a plus for me because my foot size is a street shoe 15. I have trouble with shoes being to blunt in the toe for tight pockets. Had a killer trip and look forward to climbing more in Five Tens. Next up, Vegas...
