I have decided to do five competitions. The first one was in Montreal at the gym Allez Up. There was a large number of participants. I think it was the biggest competition in the last two years or even more. In the open category there were 102 competitors. This is a huge number and the gym Allez Up managed it with no trouble. I saw some climber friends from Toronto, kingston and Ottawa. It is always nice to spend time with your friends while you climb. The competition had 60 problems for the qualifying round....

It was a super great comp! Props to Ayo, Dave and the crew for the routesetting! It was cool to get problems of different styles with a lot of technical stuff! I was entering Joe Rockhead’s facility with no expectations and surprised myself doing a very good qualifier. I was feeling good and my climbing flowed pretty well, which is good to give you confidence and keep you climb well through all of the 6 problems you have to complete. 24 hours of horseshoe hell is truly an amazing event and a test of mental and physical toughness, there is nothing else like it out there. A grassroots, hometown event executed flawlessly by event coordinators. This was my first trip and a quick one, but along with my partner Brent Perkins, we finished 2nd overall in the team event being taken down by tough conditions and the power team of Sonnie Trotter and Tommy Caldwell. This year over 40 competitors completed over 100 pitches during the 24 hour period.

I can remember the incessant nagging from my father about how rock climbing was just a hobby and that I should focus on something that would actually benefit me. I tried working for him. I tried working at a restaurant, a lawyer's office, a retailer - none of them seemed to fit. I finally committed to climbing about three years ago when I made the emotional journey from where I grew up in Southern California to the welcoming arms of Boulder, Colorado. I didn't know what I was going to...

I’m after Championships in Paris. Those were my 7-th world championships in career. Great climbing show, on its way to the world of big sport events. For me championships are always important, I prepare for them all the year, doing everything to build form on exact day of my start.
