After some unseasonably snowy weather, Spring has finally come to Colorado! I have been trying to take advantage of the mostly gorgeous weather to get outside and climb. I have been working at a new job recently, and I am finding that when I do have time to climb, I am much more motivated to do so. As a result, I have actually managed to get some great climbing done over the past few months.

This is my first post since joining the Five Ten Team, so here's a run down of what I've been up to this fall and winter. September I headed back up to Squamish for the start of the school year. September and October continued a stretch of amazing weather in the Pacific Northwest, which allowed for a ton of climbing in Squamish. I got on the amazing Eurasian Eyes, a 5.13 knife edge arete climb about a third of the way up the face of the 2000 foot tall chief.

I always tell people, yes there is some driving, and yes there is some hiking, but wait until you see the rock there! After six years of climbing and hiking in the summer I still feel the same way. Yellow Designs Stunt Team owner Brian "Yellow" Gavagan and his band of BMX pirates traveled to the mtns of Colorado for a Father's Day demo and some good times on wheels! The Yellow Designs Stunt Team performed a demo at Keystone Resort for their opening weekend of summer activities and DH course debut. Then they rode the Frisco bike park and the Breckenridge Skatepark. High-altitude living!!

The first thing I did on arriving was onsight the Naked Edge... And yes, it does not only live up to, but it exceeds it's reputation!

One day in Buena Vista Co, Demshitz, Jed Selby and Mathieu Dumoulin loaded up in Orange Bitch and headed to Durango Co for 2 days of straight charging. We ended up doing 4 creek runs, a playboat session and drank 100 beers. Some great times with demshitz!!!

Finding it hard to get motivated after returning back from Europe I kind of started to relax about climbing. I have always found it hard to stay in top shape year round. What's normal for me is having a few peaks throughout the year. But always maintaining some level of fitness.

It been a very short month of April and I am very excited for May. With school ending in a little over a week and my strength coming back after being forced to take so much time off. I have been feeling strong and very excited to climb over the past few weeks. With the first couple weeks of April not being able to do more then walk around campus after having surgery to re-break my nose it was a huge relief to be allowed to climb again.

Snow is starting to stick and temperatures are dropping below freezing. In the past two weeks I went on several day trips to Clear Creek Canyon, Boulder Canyon, and Carter Lake to focus specifically on bouldering. The first day trip was out to a problem called Animal in CCC. Animal is a small roof problem right beside the road. This problem as I quickly found out has a lot of confusion around were to start and what the grade is. There's been competitions here and there, so I was always still involved to a certain extent. The time off was mostly due to my overwhelming psyche on traveling and climbing in every place I could reach. I've spent years exploring distant places in Europe, Asia, South America and even here at home in the sates. Those times were great and they built up my character to what it is today. However, I still never forget the times I spent as a youth traveling around for competitions. At...

During the past few years it seems like Fall only lasts a few weeks and then the snow comes. Every week we have had a storm that has left a blanket of snow. As a result I have had to carry along a few extra items with me, a shovel, a big brush, and a few towels have joined me on my excursions lately. The winter tactics are a bit bothersome but necessary if you are motivated like I am. And...

Winter?I know in my last blog I was really happy that the fall weather had arrived. Now Winter seems to be here. last week we got a foot of snow and now its snowing again. I’m all for freezing temps but the white stuff makes everything impossible. But I’m still highly motivated to keep getting out there. Even if I have to trap of the top of the boulder. I’m hoping to get back to a fairly dry boulder after the snow. We’ll see what happens!
