It's finally time to start training for sport to get out to this year's IFSC World Youth Championships. This year should be good because last year was such an improvement, and I'm a lot more motivated to take back my National Champion title. This year I have decided to take more effort in trying actual routes at local crags, and hop on some 14's whether they look possible or not, just to help with sequencing on harder routes. Although bouldering is a high-intensity power sport, bouldering competitions often also require a great deal of endurance. For this reason, it’s best to prepare for bouldering comps the same way you would for a marathon or triathlon, via carbohydrate loading. The area up there has mainly two boulders; the Hillside Boulder and the Millennium Boulder. As I went up to this new area, I only had one boulder in mind. This boulder is called Bambi.   Bambi is an amazing roof in Matthew’s Winter Park. This boulder consists of multiple big moves through a steep roof. The redpoint crux is a long move to a fairly shallow two finger pocket. This comp beat me up, the quali round was four hours long, really brutal. The problems were really fun tho, and I was psyched to give them solid efforts.    The finals round had three problems, I was able to flash the first.. topped the second on my third try, and got about half way through the endurance style 3rd problem. And Bishop, Ca. I returned to Ibex with one goal in mind, to send Wing Chun (v13) on the immaculate Red Monster boulder. Ibex is not your typical bouldering crag, in fact it is the complete opposite. There were 63 climbers in the open category. This time the foreign climbers came from Toronto, New Brunswick and U.S.A.
