IFSC Lead World Cup in Boulder, CO - Carlo Traversi

IFSC Lead World Cup in Boulder, CO - Carlo Traversi
October 14, 2011 -

This past weekend I competed in the IFSC Lead World Cup in Boulder, CO. It was my first Lead World Cup competition and it was nice to be on home turf. The host gym, Movement Climbing & Fitness, is only a few blocks from my house, and it certainly made the whole experience far more pleasant. After competing in Arco this summer, after some heinous travel days getting there, it was nice to compete in an event of that caliber in a more comfortable environment. That's not to say the competition was easy. The...

Rocklands: The Vice - Dave Wetmore

Rocklands: The Vice - Dave Wetmore
October 12, 2011 -

A few weeks ago, I returned from my trip to the Rocklands; a trip of endless bouldering, delicious steaks and massive pizza's from the coveted Elephaunthous, romantic walks in acre-long flower beds, and lions devouring donkey's that had just been assassinated for our super-sketchy safari. Instead of going through every boulder problem and memory, I'll leave behind on this blog what stood out as the most poignant of them all: a post I wrote a few days after my send of The Vice.

Since three days the Ticino season started with amazing conditions. It got a bit warm jet but nothing is stopping Daniel and me from climbing everything in Brione. On my first day i could climb Vecchia Leone 8b/ General Disarray 8b  and on the second day i did Salamandre 8a+ / Ganymede Takeover 8a+ / Amber 8b.   And thats just the beginning...... So psyched what to come!? We will stay around Claro for the next 6 weeks. Next goal is the Dagger, From dirt and Big Paw !!!!

This past weekend I traveled to another Pennsylvania grit stone area to snag the third ascent of Minotaur.  This line follows pinches, pockets, slopers and crimps to a proud mantle at roughly 18ft.  Trevor (FA'd the line) was nice enough to give me the run down on beta however; I decided to use a slightly different version of moves to send.  This line is an instant classic anywhere and is just another testament to the quality of Pennsylvania bouldering.  Its good to be home on the east coast.

CommRow grand opening in Reno! - Jon Cardwell

CommRow grand opening in Reno! - Jon Cardwell
October 11, 2011 -

Last weekend I was in Reno for the grand opening of one of the most unique climbing facilities I have ever seen. The building, CommRow hosts the world tallest outdoor climbing wall. Formally a casino called The Fitzgerald, CommRow renovated the building into an entertainment facility complete with multiple restaurants, bars, coffee shops and even a venue for music. On the second floor there is large room filled with two high quality freestanding boulders built by Vertical Solutions, the same company who constructed the walls for the UBC and ABS National competitions. The lead wall was...
