And They all Screamed Dark Horse… Again - Nicholas Milburn

And They all Screamed Dark Horse… Again - Nicholas Milburn
February 05, 2014 -

This past weekend I competed in my second Dark Horse! Last year’s Dark Horse had some fierce competitors and I missed finals by two spots. This year redemption was my goal.I almost forgot there was a Dark Horse at all, but Josh Levin reminded me to buy my tickets a few weeks before the competition. Josh had a bye to finals along with Nick Picarella because they won a previous Dark Horse, so they were in the clear. I had to compete in the qualifying redpoint round. Just like last year, qualifiers was crazy hard. There were a lot...

3 Weeks, 3 Comps, & Red Rocks - Angela Payne

3 Weeks, 3 Comps, & Red Rocks - Angela Payne
February 04, 2014 -

After spending some time visiting family, I returned to Colorado just in time for the Heart & Soul competition at the Denver Bouldering Club. This was a local comp that drew a strong crowd. The boulder problems were all very fun, the finals round was challenging and entertaining, and the proceeds from the event were donated to the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. I placed 3rd and had the pleasure of climbing with many strong women, including Alex Puccio (1st), Kasia Pietras (2nd) and Nina Williams (4th), and Emily Ziffer (5th), to name a few. ...

Here is a little report about my Kalymnos trip last October. I got invited by The North Face to the project competition and I had two weeks on the island. When I arrived on Kos I didn't have a climbing partner or a place to stay. Everything was spontaneous. At the port of Kos I luckily met Dennis and Lander from Belgium that invited me to climb and stay with them the first week. That was super nice and we had a good week and a lot of climbing. We went for the...

Video - Duvida Cruel (Cruel Doubt) 5.13a - EscaladaINT
January 31, 2014 -  EscaladaINT

Check out this video of determination as Ana (escaladaint.com.br) redpoints her first 9B BR (5.13a YDS) project, “Duvida Cruel” (Cruel Doubt). On the fun and challenging sand stone of Itaqueri da Serra in Sao Paulo Brazil, Ana struggles with small, bad holds and intimidating clips. This route starts on one route and end on another by way of a diagonal traverse. It has not seen many repeats, partially because of the almost inevitable whips!

8b in Buoux Despite Being Really Weak on Pocket Climbing - Martina Cufar
January 30, 2014 -

As I wrote in the last blog post, we often drive to the south of France for some days or more to get some warm rock to climb. Last Christmas we spent almost two weeks in Buoux. Well the rock was not always very warm, it can even be very very cold in Buoux. But anyway we spent nice vacations there in Jean – Pierre’s gite Les Borys We feel like at home in this house on the plateau des Claparèdes, about 5 min driving from the rock.

January 28, 2014 -

Over the break I was fortunate enough to get out to Hueco Tanks with two of my good buds that I don’t get to see ever anymore. Needless to say I was super excited! Dalan Faulkner, Joe Gifford and I had about a week to spend in Hueco, not giving us a lot of time.
