Makin' Moves - Chris Sinatra

Makin' Moves - Chris Sinatra
January 10, 2012 -

Yesterday afternoon, I took a huge leap into the unknown and gave notice that I would be leaving my position as a Molecular Biologist. Though predicated upon a simple notion-that if you are not moving forward then you are wasting time, this choice was anything but and encompassed nearly a year of uncertainty, stress, and frustration. In a month's time I will be unemployed, a terrifying prospect given the current economic and political landscape. I will also, however, finally have the unfettered freedom to explore the many world class climbing areas that paradoxically seem so close...

Ever since I watched videos of Dave, Jon and other friends climbing in Arkansas making a trip down to check out the amazing sandstone was on the list. Nalle and I were both engaged and psyched with the idea of climbing, developing and getting to know the southeast. After a brief stop in Hueco Tanks, TX we were all motivated to climb on the friendly sandstone of Arkansas. After speaking with our contact Cole Fennel about some of the new bouldering areas that needed development, we knew that Arkansas was going to be A-MAZING. We arrived at...

The Many Faces of Winter - Jess Taverna

The Many Faces of Winter - Jess Taverna
January 09, 2012 -

It’s early January and so far, Salt Lake and the Wasatch Mountains are verging on the wrong kind of snow records. We’ve been flirting with record low season-to-date snow totals, and before this weekend’s “storm” (5-10 inches, at best), the mountains were shockingly bare. The skiing has been "meh" at best and while early season ice was actually decent, a few especially warm weeks in late December hammered things pretty hard. Where was my winter?! Where were the huge powder dumps, pre-work dawn patrols on the nearest ice? Heck, I was even missing the screaming barfies just a little....

Max and I decided to spend New Years Eve in Bishop. We spent the day climbing at the Happy Boulders–which I haven’t been to in years! I came really close to sendingThe Hulk (reachyyyy V6) with some weird beta and Acid Wash Right (V9)…but I didn’t.Max sent Kill On Sight (V11), Acid Wash (V10), Toxic Avenger (V9/10), and The Hulk(V6). He also sent two climbs that are on Urban Climber’s top 100 list, Atari (V6) which is #71 and Heavenly Path (V1) which is #16. His goal is to do all the climbs on the list. He has done...

Just got back from a short trip to ticino right after new year. I hadn't been down there in quite a while so I was very excited to climb on good old swiss gneiss once again! As some snow dropped down at the higher spots the days before we arrived the decision was made to climb at Cresciano. We got there in the afternoon and just climbed around randomly, enjoying the rock and the forest and meeting people I hadn't seen in a while...

January 08, 2012 -

Well I've been hanging out in Hueco for 2 weeks or so and I'm really happy with the way it's been going. Not that I've been slaying boulders left and right (I haven't been) but it's been great to try some really tough boulders. Rather than reading a long post, check out these photos!!! I have a couple more days and I'm going to try to finish up Li (v13) and House of Doom (v13). Good Times!!!
