Training Blog 1: Getting the Ball Rolling - Angela Payne

Training Blog 1: Getting the Ball Rolling - Angela Payne
January 18, 2012 -

For 15 years, competitions have been an integral part of my climbing experience. I competed in my first competition when I was 11 and I can’t even count how many comps I’ve done since then. At times I have become disillusioned with competing and have even walked away from the world of comp climbing all together for brief spells. But I always find myself being drawn back in, because, to put it simply, I love it. I love having something to train for and I gain a great deal of motivation from having a goal...

Sniper - An Epic Journey - Fabian Christof

Sniper - An Epic Journey - Fabian Christof
January 18, 2012 -

I’ve tried a route that is called “Sniper”. It´s more or less a route! 12 moves, over six meters leading to the top. Though it´s only 12 moves long it requires a weird kind of endurance. Every single move is hard and there is no possibility to rest or even catch a breath instead of getting a green or blue face. The size of the holds (which is from the beginning not very big) become even smaller the higher you climb. Everything is needed. The very obvious thing you should bring along is a lot of finger strength especially...

Hog Wild in Arkansas - Jessa Goebel

Hog Wild in Arkansas - Jessa Goebel
January 17, 2012 -

Over New Years took a quick trip down to Arkansas to check out some new development opportunities. Originally the plan was to spend several weeks around the Sam's Throne area and help develop new routes. Unfortunately our trip was cut short to a week due to sickness and work schedules. The trip was almost postponed but we rallied at the last minute and blasted south to warmer and sunnier conditions.

So far the winter months have been going very well. I have been getting out and climbing a ton. The first weekend of December my friend Morgan and I decided that we were spending too much time sitting around and we needed to go into the mountains. We decided to try the cables route on Longs Peak in the winter.

Divisionals for the ABS youth series was this weekend at Stone Summit. It was a lot of fun, and the problems were sweet. I took first both days of the comp. On the way home I held my traditional lock off comp that I stared last year in an airport. Every time I get on a train in an airport, the kind that take you from one terminal to another, I challenge fellow climber travelers to see who can hold a 90 degree lock off position, off of the bar that people are supposed to hold on to...

With exuberant nature, a beautiful river with dark ice cold waters and rock formations of outstanding beauty, the area known as "Serra do Cipó" attracts tourists from around the world. This small town, located 60 miles from Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, in southeastern Brazil has a hot rainy summer and a dry warm winter, ideal season for climbing. Besides the large limestone formations of up to 200 feet tall, it's easy to find waterfalls and canyons, which attracts more practitioners of outdoor sports such as basejumpers, canyoneers, cyclists, parachutists, and more.
