Circadian Rhythm - Jon Cardwell

Circadian Rhythm - Jon Cardwell
April 17, 2012 -  Jon Cardwell

I've known about Circadian Rhythm ever since I've been visiting Colorado for climbing. Its notorious for its intricate and technical moves leading to a large, powerful jump to the lip on Swiss-Style granite. Located in the middle of the popular 420 boulders it remained a project for years until a young first-ascent-maestro David Graham stumbled upon it in 2001. He solved the moves and claimed the first ascent naming it Circadian Rhythm for one reason or another, perhaps for completing the last obvious line on the boulder. None the less, it has stood the test...

Remembering a Great Man - Bret Johnston

My great friend Justin Amorratanasuchad (yes it’s a very long complicated Tai name) and I made this little climbing short a couple of years ago and I will forever cherish it as some of my best memories. Justin was no climber, but a filmmaker. Throughout high school he made a number of award winning shorts, and later got accepted to Emerson College in Boston for film school. We grew up together, like brothers from the age of seven. I was so excited to show his talent in the world of rock climbing. When we started he had no concept...

On the Road with Nico Favresse

On the Road with Nico Favresse
April 16, 2012 -  Nancy Prichard-Bouchard

Winner of the 2011 Piolet d’Or, an international award given to climbers who demonstrate the modern sense of alpinism, Nico is hands-down one of the world’s most respected climbers. In a sport now dominated with bouldering, sport climbing and indoor climbing gyms, Nico epitomizes adventure climbing. Born in Brussels, Belgium, and now an international traveler, Nico’s style of climbing is that of old school. He has climbing partners, rather than the new-school “belayer,” and considers adventure more important than “world’s hardest” or a line in the Guinness Book of World Records. Most recently, Nico returned from a successful trip...

Utah Climbing: "Atonement" Sending! - Sasha DiGiulian
April 16, 2012 -

Following Nationals in Colorado I flew to Las Vegas to climb outside in Southwest Utah at some famous limestone crags. The weather has been pretty sporadic; to start, it was really quite perfect (though hot for some maybe!)... warm and sunny! Then, the storm came in and it was movie-day time due to cold weather, dark ominous clouds, and pouring rain. Today the skies cleared and I went back to the Virgin River Gorge to climb. I had a successful day =] I did the first female ascent, 2nd ascent (after Jonathan Siegrist!), of “Atonement;” a sustained crimpy limestone...

Austrian Bouldering Nationals 2012 - Emi Moosburger
April 15, 2012 -  Emanuel Moosburger

This year I decided to take a break of the comp scene because I am doing my diploma at Uni besides working half time so there would not be much room and time flexibility for comps and I'd rather spend my free time on the rock than on comp walls. But the nationals were one of the events I wanted to attend anyway so I was well excited when the day came and we drove to the comp site.I trained a lot indoors the past months and felt in good shape, but had no clue what to expect, just...
