My First V9 and a Trip to the Pollen Grains - Matt Grossman

My First V9 and a Trip to the Pollen Grains - Matt Grossman
February 11, 2014 -  Matt Grossman

Over the Martin Luther King 3 day weekend a few of my teammates and I went to bishop. We climbed for 2 full days and had a lot of fun.On the first day of the trip we went to the Sads and started the day in the Ice Caves. We did some traversing and sent Shazam V5 (6c+) as a warm-up, then started working our projects. Seth Rogers and I got on Water Hazard V9 (7c) and after a few tries we had both sent. It was my first V9! It flowed nicely for me and was a good...

Routes at Allez up 2014 Competition - Hans Christian Montenegro
February 11, 2014 -

This competition was amazing, well organized and a good show for the spectators. Normally, I do routes only for my training in a specific time of my training cycle, but this time I decided to do some competition in order to have a new experience. How many climbers did this competition? This time there were 17 Junior, 7 women elite and 24 men elite for the Coupe Quebec at The Allez Up gym. We had two routes for qualification in the elite man category. The first one was a nice route, with different styles,...

Over the winter holidays, I traveled to Torreon, Mexico to celebrate with my girlfriend’s parents. We stayed at her families house in Lerdo, a city next to Torreon. Northern Mexico is very different from the central part of Mexico and is a huge desert with beautiful hills and warm weather. The climbing scene in the area is very small and there are only a handful of active climbers who have found and developed a very beautiful limestone area called La Presa. The local climbing area is a 45 minute drive to the west of the city in the hills...

The places I go and the people I meet pave my understanding of the world. As I travel, I experience the beauty of interaction and connection with both new and familiar faces. This weekend I had the amazing opportunity to open as Keynote Speaker at the Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival (VIMFF). Through climbing, I have defined myself and I have learned life with a passion. I am still growing and learning each day and with each new opportunity I feel blessed for opportunities like this to reflect and to define who I am with a keener aptitude. Developing...

First Place in Ouray Speed Climbing Comp - Andres Marin
February 09, 2014 -

This year the Ouray Ice Festival was a total blast!!!! Great times teaching clinics, seeing friends from all over the globe, and the challenge of the competitions were the highlights on this year's festival. I look forward to this event, year after year. Training hard, I put major focus on fitness to perform at a high level in the biggest ice climbing competition in the country. The OIF has two competitions: Difficulty and Speed. On the difficulty competition we had to climb about 20 feet of ice followed by an M9...
