Spring Part One - Therese Johansen

Spring Part One - Therese Johansen
May 14, 2012 -

The 23.march I finally sent Rule of thumb, 8A, a boulder that have cost me quite a lot of work, and also one of the most fun and coolest boulders I have ever done. On this boulder I found new betas on every single session, also the session where I sent it. The crux on this boulder has for me been a task about patient and precise footwork. I needed to use extra time to get the heel and the toe on the exact right place, and if I did it a tiny bit wrong, I would...

Start the heat, yesterday rondamos 30 °, the boulder starts to blur as each year, provided they do not do the classics up or down to Malniu Pyrenees of Lleida looking cold, but for now, here except some cave and cool evenings, we just take the mat.So you have to give way again to the rope, and with Pol decided to go to spend an afternoon working Savassona a project that I have long wanted to try and I've talked a lot to Pol, knowing it would be of his style and would like, we knew it would rain, and...

Spring Update - Francesca Metcalf

May 10, 2012 -

Summer is finally here, and although that means free time and awesome weather for climbing, it also means a slight brake from bouldering and time for the painful process of building endurance. After bouldering nationals, I felt a little burned out from training, so I took a needed brake to regain some motivation. My first day back afterwards was rough to say the least. I jumped right into rope climbing, since Adult SCS Nationals were in about a week and I was not ready at all. Let’s just say, by the end of the three hour session, I was...

After ABS 13 Nationals, my Dad and Drew's Dad Rudy decided to plan a trip together to the Red River Gorge. Drew's parents organized the whole thing and invited some other friends from competition. Unfortunately Kai was hurt and couldn't make it, but we climbed with Jake, Timmy, and Drew's brother Jono, and also met with Michaela at the Red.

Smith Spring - Tim Garland

Spring has sprung here at Smith and the temp continues to rise. Conditions this time of year can be great when you know what is good at the right time. Usually when the weather heats up the options are on Monkey Face, the backside of Smith, the Aggro Gully, and last but not least, the fantastic basalt gorge. The basalt climbs at Smith offer some great technique work and a full body workout. After spending time in the Smith gorge you feel comfortable smearing on just about anything, climbing above some tiny gear, and fighting through some great off-widths....

After a few more relaxing days of climbing in Spain, I flew to Milan to attend the Melloblocco Event in Val Masino, Italy! Melloblocco is Europe’s largest outdoor climbing festival and the event is situated in a gorgeous mountain-town that is encompassed by enormous granite rock faces and lush green valley. Smaller granite boulders litter the landscape as well and these boulders were the focus of the event. The organizers of the event arranged select boulder problems for men and women from around the world to climb on in a relaxed “competition” set-up. Unfortunately, 30 minutes after I arrived...
