Colorado Alpine Summer - Matt Lubar

Colorado Alpine Summer - Matt Lubar
July 04, 2013 -

This last month has reminded me why Colorado is the greatest place on earth. Long days in the mountains, endless amounts of amazing lines in incredible places, and good friends to enjoy them with. What could be better? In between coaching summer camps at the ABC gym in Boulder, trying to put away some money for a potential European tour in Fall/Winter of 2014, I’ve been lucky enough to find ample time to head up to RMNP and Mt. Evans. As usual, there is never a lack of psych or strong, motivated people to go climbing...

Road Trip Post 4: Ten Sleep, WY - Vikki Weldon

"Three times! It's been three times that I have had to leave a climbing area because of a fire!" Our camping neighbour raved as we rushed about to pack up our camp sites and book it out of the canyon. Minutes earlier, the fire warden had driven through Rifle Canyon, telling all climbers to evacuate the canyon immediately due to a fire. We had noticed the smoke and ash filtering through the canyon about a half hour before and weren't surprised by the evacuation. Bummer. That was the essence of my feelings of having to leave Rifle....

Tai Chi "Originally, Tai Chi is an internal martial art (Chinese: ? ? ?, pinyin: nèijiaquán) for combat, whether armed or unarmed. In more recent times it increasingly seen as a practice physical and spiritual, which on one hand would be very beneficial to health, while the other is a meditation technique (moving meditation) "

Three months ago I left Mexico City to Colorado...This year –as the last 6 of my life– I intended to reach Colorado in the month of March, but it was snowing a lot and got very cold. Every day Chad G., David G. and I went climbing at Elkaland or RMNP. It seems to me that it must be like the battle of going to the office or school; it is hard to get motivated being so cold and having strong winds outside... but, as always, we try to go climbing, and if it is snowing very much we...

June 2013: Spring to Summer in the San Francisco Bay Area - Will Roderick

June 2013: Spring to Summer in the San Francisco Bay Area - Will Roderick
July 03, 2013 -  Will Roderick

With the end of spring quarter and the beginning of summer, I’ve come back home to Berkeley. I actually did my final engineering project on climbing and found that climbers who are extended and climbing horizontally (for example, under a roof) save about 25% more energy by smearing or keeping their feet on flat holds (relying solely on friction) over using no feet. Cool, right? And while I’m sad to have left Stanford and my friends there, it’s great to see my family and my friends from high school again. I’ve started working at UC Berkeley designing robots inspired...

Red River Days - Ellis Whitson

Red River Days - Ellis Whitson
July 02, 2013 -  Ellis Whitson

The trip has been a blast, it has been a year and a half since I was last here and I am never disappointed to come back to this magical place. The Red has an absurd amount of steep sandstone sport climbing and development has continued at a steady pace over the last few years. Some highlights of the trip thus far- Kerry Scott's send of Kaleidoscope (5.13c). Kerry worked this beast over three days and finally put it down two days ago. She ended up skipping the last clip and running it to the chains...
