Boyz in the Hood - Urs Moosmuller

Boyz in the Hood - Urs Moosmuller
July 06, 2014 -  Urs Moosmuller

Boyz in the Hood is a mythical boulder problem hidden in the town of Truckee, CA. It was first established by the Tahoe legend Charlie Barrett in the early 2000’s. At the time of its ascent it was the hardest boulder problem in Tahoe and has the reputation of being impossible. The problem reached mythical statues within the local bouldering community and for years the problem sat unrepeated. A few years ago the second ascent finally fell to Joel Zerr and since then the popularity of the problem has increased and the lack of information has been broken. Currently...

The Future of Comp Climbing? - Josh Levin

The Future of Comp Climbing? - Josh Levin

The first time I stepped foot in Arco, Italy three years ago for the World Championships, I could immediately sense the historic weight of the location surrounding me. There’s just something magical about it that’s tough to put to words. Nestled in the foothills of the Alps, Arco is home to the birthplace of modern competition climbing as we know it, beginning with the first Rock Master Festival in 1987. At the time, competitors scaled chipped lines in the surrounding limestone cliffs, fabricated by the “setters” specifically for the event. I remember watching footage Lynn Hill and Stefan Glowacz...

This competition was at Delire gym in Quebec City. The competition was well organized but there were not many people. It was a good experience and a good opportunity to meet new climbers from a different region (where normally I don’t go for competition).

Rock and Ice Photo Camp 2014 - Delaney Miller

Rock and Ice Photo Camp 2014 - Delaney Miller

This year’s Rock and Ice photo camp was another great experience! It took place in Ouray, Colorado; a small, aged town located about 70 miles north of Durango. Despite the town’s rep for being an ice climbing location, the rock was vey positive. The walls were fresh with good movements and plenty of flow.  I was totally shocked by how well all the routes progressed and yet how very little traffic they received. From the understated crags to the bustling hot springs, Ouray’s charm was noticed by climbers and photography students alike.
