turdsdude your first draw is backclipped.
Every once in a while, you get writer’s block. You just don’t know what to write about. I was feeling that a while back so reached out to some friends looking for help with a topic. A friend that I first started climbing with back in Winnipeg, Manitoba suggested I write about my early days and transitioning from going from a smaller competition scene to being one of the top Canadian climbers now.As I’ve suggested so far, originally I wasn’t from Calgary, Alberta... I was from the flat of the flatlands, Winnipeg, Manitoba. Everyone always asks how I managed...
Last week my Zero Gravity teammates and I had the opportunity to go to DogPatch Boulders for a team-only open house. DogPatch is located in San Francisco in the Dog Patch neighborhood. It is a brand new bouldering gym that is not yet open to the public. When I first got there, my breath was taken away. The gym was massive in size, and the walls were 18 feet high with lots of fun angles!! Every time any of us climbed, we made sure we had a spotter. We got to climb for around 3 hours, and...
I’m two comps into the season so far and have done a lot of learning so far (or at least I feel I have, hopefully the lessons stick). It’s quite different having comps start this early for those of us in Western Canada. Typically at this point, we’ve only had 1-2 fun comps. Mentally, I don’t think I’ve been quite ready for it but the plus to that is that I haven’t focused so much on my week leading up to comp routine/prep. I’ve been able to pinpoint a few things that work for me and a few that...
It's that time of year again. Halloween, candy for all, tummy aches, sugar rush and ROCK CLIMBING! My gym, Stone Moves, held its second ever Monster Mash comp. How often do you get to dress up in costume an rock climb? Well, I guess you could do it all the time, but this way you won't look like a fool. Some of the best costumes I saw were the Sand Bagger and Campusing. I dressed up as Five Ten and shaved my head in an interesting pattern to give my costume a bit of a boost. Most...
Finally, our new gym is now Open!!! www.allezup.com Allez-Up climbing gym first opened in 1998. The gym has been known to be a great place for experienced climbers to train and perform. Even though it was a small and dusty space, the gym always kept its good reputation for great route setting and great competitions. I have been working for Allez-Up climbing gym in Montreal, Canada since 2007 and became the head route setter in 2009. I have been working with the owners on this new climbing gym for the past 3 years now! And in 2012,...
