The Nightmare Before Sendmas (Hopefully!!!) - Erica Carlson

The Nightmare Before Sendmas (Hopefully!!!) - Erica Carlson
November 27, 2014 -  Erica Carlson

These comps are always a blast and are very well organized. Simon, the manager of the south location, has been hosting comps for 10+ years and has ironed out pretty much all the kinks you can have in a competition. This competition consistently runs on time, which is testimony to the level of organization they have. Unfortunately, this is the first time in over 6 years that I was not...

Let’s talk about the elephant in the room.... Anxiety. We’ve all had to deal with it, we’ve all felt it, but none of us seem comfortable talking about it. We don’t want others to know  that we’re experiencing it or that it was part of what caused us to fall, miss a hold, second guess the movement.

After a rough comp, you can do one of two things. You can figure out what you did wrong and see how you can improve it. Or, you can be a grouch about it. Typically, I’m pretty good at learning from a poor comp and making sure I’m not grouchy about it. I can’t say that was the case though for the Boulder World Cup in Vail... I was a grouch trying to learn and learning is nowhere near as easy when you’re frustrated.I think the reason I was frustrated was because the comp emphasized a style of climbing...

Small Town Roots - Erica Carlson

Every once in a while, you get writer’s block. You just don’t know what to write about. I was feeling that a while back so reached out to some friends looking for help with a topic. A friend that I first started climbing with back in Winnipeg, Manitoba suggested I write about my early days and transitioning from going from a smaller competition scene to being one of the top Canadian climbers now.As I’ve suggested so far, originally I wasn’t from Calgary, Alberta... I was from the flat of the flatlands, Winnipeg, Manitoba. Everyone always asks how I managed...
