ARRRRG - Nicholas Milburn

ARRRRG - Nicholas Milburn
April 02, 2013 -

This past weekend was my first comp of this year's SCS season! Back to ropes, tall stuff and endurance training. Since it was also Easter weekend I had and Friday off of school, so I went out to Austin early and went to Reimers Ranch and climbed some of that Texas limestone. The first thing I got on was Prototype which was my project for a long time when I was a wee boy. It feels much easier than I remember. I walked down and met some friends of mine from Houston at the House of Pain wall. I...

Whooo Spring Break!!! - Nicholas Milburn

Whooo Spring Break!!! - Nicholas Milburn
March 29, 2013 -

This spring break I went out to the southeast (big shock I know). My whole family went up and we invited some friends. Brian Towner and his soon to be wife Kristy Dorris came up from Houston, Dalan Faulkner and Sam Rockstein drove up from Dallas and Joe Gifford from Austin. So we had ten people living in our tiny little house, but since it was a climbing trip we weren't in the house very much. Joe and I drove separately and we managed to make the drive in record time,...

Quick Turn Around

Quick Turn Around
March 18, 2013 -  Nicholas Milburn

I just realized that I had this blog post written up and I never posted it, so here we go.The weekend before ABS Open Nationals I had a long weekend, so I capitalized on this random awesomeness and decided to go rock climbing. Mostly Tom (stepdad) planned everything and I eagerly agreed. Anyway after we debated a bit on where to go we decided to back to the southeast and climb on that sweet sandstone. We left after I got out of school, so we didn’t make it all the way, but this worked out rather well. At...

ABS14 Nationals: Training, Competing, Performing - Josh Levin
March 11, 2013 -  Josh Levin

Last weekend concluded the 2013 ABS National Championships. This year, I traveled out to Colorado Springs to compete in both the youth and open divisions, securing a semifinal bid in the adult category and my 5th National Bouldering Championship title in my last youth bouldering competition ever. This two week Colorado experience has definitely been one of the best times of my life, and I am extremely grateful to be able to live out this lifestyle, balancing my studying with traveling and competing with some of my best friends. Now that I am able to look back and reflect on...

Getting Away From it All - Alan Cassidy

Getting Away From it All - Alan Cassidy
March 11, 2013 -  Alan Cassidy

It has been another hard winter here in Scotland. The long dark nights, the rain and the work commitments have once again meant that rock activity has been limited. Same old story huh?! Well, with a weather window coinciding with a few days off there was nothing for it but to escape the country all together. I have never been the best boulderer and this year I am determined to turn that around. I have been seeing some progression in the training and was keen to apply it to the boulders. Where would you go to boulder...

X-Mas in Bishop - Mirko Caballero

X-Mas in Bishop - Mirko Caballero
March 04, 2013 -  Mirko Caballero

This trip to Bishop was the coldest I ever experienced. When we arrived at the campsite around 2am on Dec 21, it was about 9ºF (-13ºC)!!! A few days later we had a snowstorm that dumped about 4 inches of snow in the campground. Who cares!!! I love Bishop in the winter. The cold makes the holds feel less greasy, and the views are just amazing! At the beginning of the trip I was planning to go project really hard climbs in the Buttermilks, but since they were snowed in and I hadn’t bouldered in almost nine months, my Dad...
