Fall has been great for the Bend Endurance Academy Climbing Team. The team has traveled to and done well at a bunch of ABS competitions, went to the Portland Boulder Rally, and have been getting outside to sample some of the bouldering in and around Bend!
The climbing team again made the annual trek to Bishop with our partners in crime, the MAC Climbing Team. The size of our crew doubled from last year which translated to more fun and more sending.
Bend Endurance Academy climbers Walker Davis and Tristan Helmich both qualified to compete at the American Bouldering Series Youth National Championships to be held in March in Colorado Springs, CO.
The days are short and the darkness and cold drive us inside to the climbing gym. This time of year can be depressing, with school and work forcing us to spend the bulk of daylight hours inside. Lucky for us it makes it easier to head into the gym and fine tune things as we quickly approach our Regional Championships.
1500 miles, 1- 15 passenger van and trailer, 2 climbing teams, 4 coaches, 9 climbers, 11 crash pads, 28 pairs of climbing shoes, 30 twinkies and a Five Ten shoebox full of candy. Of course this was going to be a sweet spring break!
It's been over a week since the 2012 ABS 13 Youth National Championships in Colorado Springs so it's probably a good time to post something about it. This was the fourth ABS Nationals that I've coached at and I can say hands down it was the best one yet! For the second year in a row we had really nice comp style walls and I'm happy to see the events being held in bigger non-climbing gym venues.
