Projecting in Rifle - Nicholas Milburn

Projecting in Rifle - Nicholas Milburn
June 28, 2014 -

I started my summer with three goals: send The Crew (5.14c) in Rifle, send Southern Comfort (5.14a) in Little River Canyon, and send Dream Catcher (5.14d) in Squamish. Each of these goals is ambitious as each route is very hard. I have tried all of them before. I have been working Southern Comfort for about three summers now and only in the hottest part of the year, which is poor strategizing on my part. I have tried The Crew a few times while I was in Rifle, but I have not seriously projected it. I have only gotten...

Sweet Sandstone - Nicholas Milburn

Sweet Sandstone - Nicholas Milburn
April 11, 2014 -

What is a better way to spend spring break than bouldering on sweet sandstone? The only and correct answer is nothing. Usually I spend my spring breaks down in the southeast throwing down with southern sandstone, but this year I changed it up. Ben Spannuth, Garrett Gregor and I decided to go to Joes Valley and Red Rocks. I was really psyched to go back to Joes because I wanted to get back on Black Lung. I got close to sending over Thanksgiving, but could not make it happen. Both Ben and I injured our left middle fingers climbing...

And They all Screamed Dark Horse… Again - Nicholas Milburn

And They all Screamed Dark Horse… Again - Nicholas Milburn
February 05, 2014 -

This past weekend I competed in my second Dark Horse! Last year’s Dark Horse had some fierce competitors and I missed finals by two spots. This year redemption was my goal.I almost forgot there was a Dark Horse at all, but Josh Levin reminded me to buy my tickets a few weeks before the competition. Josh had a bye to finals along with Nick Picarella because they won a previous Dark Horse, so they were in the clear. I had to compete in the qualifying redpoint round. Just like last year, qualifiers was crazy hard. There were a lot...

Portland Boulder Rally - Nicholas Milburn

Portland Boulder Rally - Nicholas Milburn
October 17, 2013 -

As I'm sure most of you know the Portland Boulder Rally was this past weekend and it was awesome! This was the third time the comp was held and the first time I went. I made a last minute decision to go and I'm glad I did. When I first got the gym there was all kinds of fun stuff going on. There was a tent with sponsors, free stuff and food. Pro athletes were being interviewed. Posters were being signed. In all it was pretty cool. It seemed like Boulder temporarily relocated to Portland for the weekend and competition...

Blackwing vs Arrowhead - Christian Muench

Blackwing vs Arrowhead - Christian Muench
September 09, 2013 -  Muench

At the moment I am climbing the Arrowhead and the Blackwing. So I thought it would be a good idea to compare the both shoe models and find out their strengths and weaknesses.Concerning the Arrowhead, this shoe is really strong if it comes to slabs and vertical climbing. It holds perfectly on slopey footholds and small crimps. In that style of climbing, the only sections I had problems with where those with tiny pockets to step in. In overhanging routes and when it comes to technical heal hooks, in my opinion the Arrowhead reaches its limits even though I...

Back in Time - Nicholas Milburn

Back in Time - Nicholas Milburn
September 04, 2013 -  Nicholas Milburn

Let’s go back in time. Not very far, just to late July of this year. During this amazing time in my life I was in Rifle, Colorado with my amazing girlfriend, Tiffany Murphy, and my two amazing friends, Dalan Faulkner and Joe Gifford. I planned my entire 3 month summer trip on the idea that I wanted to go back to Rifle and in the end we only spent a week there. However it was one of the best weeks of my life. We started our Rifle adventures by meeting up with Josh Levin, Charlie Andrews and...
