I think I will just write a quick blurb about my adventures last weekend. Brendan Mitchell, a recent addition to the Brand of the Brave, told me he was going to be in Austin for his dad's (Bruce) 50th birthday and that I should join him so we can climb together. I jumped at the idea. Tiffany Murphy and Sam Rothstein also drove down from Dallas and we meet up with Joe Gifford who lives in Austin. We all arrived at different times, so I ate dinner with Brendan and his family at this super nice golf...
Two days of epics in the Ozarks. Who would have thought so much adventure could happen in such a short amount of time? After all this was just a spur of the moment kind of thing. At least for me it was. After the Capital City Crux competition in Austin some of the Dallas crew were talking about Arkansas. I was excited about my weekend of nothing when they invited me to come with them. Going to Arkansas to test myself against that sweet sandstone sounded much more fun than doing nothing at home. After convincing...
Bouldering comp in Austin? That can't be all that cool. WRONG! It is awesome. Austin Rock Gym held their first ever Capital City Crux comp and I say it was a success. ARG did some amazing and much needed remodeling to the gym to prepare for this thing. Before it was an old manky floor and unused wall space. Not anymore. They tore out the big island which opened everything up and gave an entire new feeling to the gym. Even though the walls were the same they felt much better. They also replaced the floor with some big...
This past weekend was my first comp of this year's SCS season! Back to ropes, tall stuff and endurance training. Since it was also Easter weekend I had and Friday off of school, so I went out to Austin early and went to Reimers Ranch and climbed some of that Texas limestone. The first thing I got on was Prototype which was my project for a long time when I was a wee boy. It feels much easier than I remember. I walked down and met some friends of mine from Houston at the House of Pain wall. I...
This spring break I went out to the southeast (big shock I know). My whole family went up and we invited some friends. Brian Towner and his soon to be wife Kristy Dorris came up from Houston, Dalan Faulkner and Sam Rockstein drove up from Dallas and Joe Gifford from Austin. So we had ten people living in our tiny little house, but since it was a climbing trip we weren't in the house very much. Joe and I drove separately and we managed to make the drive in record time,...
I just realized that I had this blog post written up and I never posted it, so here we go.The weekend before ABS Open Nationals I had a long weekend, so I capitalized on this random awesomeness and decided to go rock climbing. Mostly Tom (stepdad) planned everything and I eagerly agreed. Anyway after we debated a bit on where to go we decided to back to the southeast and climb on that sweet sandstone. We left after I got out of school, so we didn’t make it all the way, but this worked out rather well. At...
