ABS Nationals 2014 - A Growing Experience - Matt Grossman

ABS Nationals 2014 - A Growing Experience - Matt Grossman
March 31, 2014 -

The competition started the next day and I was really excited. My ISO time wasn’t until late in the day so I could wake up late and just relax for most of the day. When I went into ISO the first thing that I noticed were all of the system boards. These were great because my coach and I could make up problems to work on moves that I thought might be on my routes. There were four problems the first day. The first was a slab that wasn’t super hard but I had to be patient on it....

Finishing Out the Bouldering Season - Zoe Steinberg
March 06, 2014 -  Zoe Steinberg

Since it is starting to seem like I am always a little behind on blog posts, I am going to try something a little different with the next two posts. Instead of giving a full run through of every comp I have gone to since my last post (I think there have been about 7 of them), I’m going to quickly summarize the events that I went to in this post, and then reflect on them in a couple of weeks in my next post when I have had a little more time to think on them. ...

Training for Nationals: Pipeworks, Ironworks, and Dogpatch - Matt Grossman
February 24, 2014 -

I have been training hard for nationals and am excited to be going off to Colorado in a few days. I have been training for about 12 hours a week. My weekly training is broken up into 3 hour sessions on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and then either Saturday or Sunday. I am trying to do more boulder problems that my coaches make up so that they have a weird move or are more of a comp style boulder problem. I am also working on my slab climbing to sharpen my skills and am getting better at my pacing and...

The Lockdown, Brawl, and Regionals - Zoe Steinberg

So as I mentioned a while ago, after I went to the Midnight Burn, I had two more comps in November, with nothing after that until regionals.  Both comps were very local, with one being at The Gravity Vault, which is 10 minutes from my house, and the next one at New Jersey Rock Gym, which is only about a 40 minute drive.  A few weeks later, I drove down to Valley Township in PA for regionals.

The week or so after I got back from the red was basically a no-sleep work marathon.  I missed a ton of work, and still had every-day stuff to catch up on, so saying that I was stressed would have been the understatement of the year.  I got back to a normal routine relatively quickly though, and two weekends after I got back from the red I drove down to Pennsylvania for PRG’s annual Midnight Burn comp.
