Donner Summit's King Line - Urs Moosmuller

Donner Summit's King Line - Urs Moosmuller
August 11, 2014 -  Urs Moosmuller

Father’s Day is the hardest established route in Donner Summit and one of the hardest traditional routes in the country. The route was established by Tom Herbert in the late nineties using trad gear for the bottom half and bolts for the upper half. This style of climbing the route is the most popular and the first few repeats were in this style. Five Ten athlete Nico Favresse became the first person to climb the route solely on trad gear and since then very few people have been able to complete the route only using natural protection. ...

Training and Preparations - Nick Bradley

Training and Preparations - Nick Bradley
June 07, 2014 -

As always, the months before Nationals have been pretty slow, not very eventful, and consisting almost primarily of training and ramping up for the comp. Besides a few things, it's been training, training, training, and on the days that I'm "not" training I'm cross-training. But of course, the only thing worse than losing a national title is losing and knowing I could've done more to perform better, and I never want to experience that feeling. Training this year has been largely mental, not that I'm training to up my mental game, nor that training is un-motivating, but that I...

Road Trip Post 6: Psicocomp and My First 5.14! - Vikki Weldon

Road Trip Post 6: Psicocomp and My First 5.14! - Vikki Weldon
August 12, 2013 -

As many Five Ten athletes have already alerted the masses, there was a pretty amazing competition held in Park City, UT last week. I remember first learning of the event on Facebook a few months before. Deep water solo competition! 50 foot wall above a pool of water at the Olympic Park in Park City. How could I resist? I have fallen out of the competition scene in the last few years. After over 12 years of competition, I burnt out from the stress, the training and the injuries. I have instead chosen to focus my goals in outdoor...

Donner Summit 5.14 - Urs Moosmuller

Donner Summit 5.14 - Urs Moosmuller
July 10, 2013 -

Donner Summit is a small granite crag located in north Lake Tahoe just above the town of Truckee. Most of the rock is vertical to slightly overhanging with perfect bullet hard cracks leading through the natural weaknesses in the wall. There is one steep overhung wall higher up on the summit called Stars Wall which hosts the areas hardest routes. With a 5.14 trad and sport line on granite, it is one of the few granite 5.14’s in the country. I grew up 45 minutes to the east of Donner Summit and this is where I grew up climbing....

Mirko Caballero - Pum-fests, Slabs & Knobs...
December 18, 2012 -  Mirko Caballero

From Red River Gorge Overhang Pumpfests... to scary Smith Rock Slabs... to the knobby walls of Pinnacles National Monument... or the story of My Climbing Adventures during the fall of 2012. Red River Gorge (November 9-12, Veteran's Day) After two two-hour flights and a two-hour drive we were finally back in Kentucky. The psych was high and I was ready to get to work! I had less than 4 days to climb, so the next morning we were up at 7:00 am... on a weekend (I know, crazy right?) to go climbing at the Bob...

My Epic Summer in Europe - Mirko Caballero
September 01, 2012 -  Mirko Caballero

It’s been a while since my last post, but I have some excuses: it’s been a hectic time since my trip to the Red River Gorge, and training to prepare for US Youth Nationals in Speed & Sport Climbing. I did go outside a few more times to Smith Rock, Pinnacles, Donner Pass, Jailhouse and Big Chief, and sent a few more 5.13’s along the way. But back to my Summer climbing... I wrote this post over the 10 weeks I was traveling, but only now got the time to put it all together and post it....
