Look Up! - Sasha DiGiulian

Look Up! - Sasha DiGiulian
March 16, 2014 -

Growing up to pass time at the hockey rink while Charlie played, I could be found up in the rafters. I would climb the scaffolding, and when my parents went to look for me, they just had to look up. Well, Red Bull and I chose to take this scaffolding idea to a bigger arena: Quite literally. Red Bull owns The New York Red Bulls and the old Giant’s Stadium in Harrison, NJ, just outside of NYC. With the help and support of both Red Bull and Petzl, we had an incredibly savvy crew at the arena...

I’m always amazed at the time I spend preparing for a BASE trip in comparison to the time I’ll actually spend in flight for it. It’s not uncommon I spend over twenty hours planning a trip that only yields about three-minutes of flight time. Hours are spent on logistical preparation, travel time, location and exit-point scouting and hiking. On paper, the time spent planning for a flight vs. flight time doesn’t seem to add up, yet time and time again those few seconds in flight are so potent it makes it’s all worth it.

Grand Canyon of the Colorado: The Solo Experience - John Nestler

Grand Canyon of the Colorado: The Solo Experience - John Nestler
March 11, 2014 -  Five Ten Webmaster

Feeling small, that’s what we crave. Nearly every soloist I talked to mentioned seeking this feeling while paddling the Grand Canyon of the Colorado. The comforts of the modern world protect us; cushion against challenges, so we return to the natural world to experience forces far greater than us. It’s difficult not to feel like an insignificant blip in the timeline when you’re surrounded by over a billion years of geologic history, but the beauty is intoxicating, the rapids have personality, and I was ready for the Canyon to teach me.

Puppy!!! And Chamonix Spring Flying - Ellen Brennan

2014 has been turning out to be a spectacular year so far with the newest member added to the family- my little fur face, and great flying conditions! I had been planning to spend my winter season speedriding and skiing non-stop, but with the marginal snow conditions, I have reverted back to my summer sports plan and have been wingsuiting in the Chamonix valley all season!

This competition was at Vertical Gym in Montréal. There were 67 participants which is a good number of climber for a competition. I saw some friends from Toronto, Ottawa and USA (Josh Larson). The competition had 64 problems for the qualifying round. I found the qualifying round too hard for me. The problems were very powerful, with big movements and they were not very technical. I climbed until 15 second before the end. After three hours of climbing, I completed six problems (between number 64 and 53). This score put me in the 13th place. Then, I...
