I boarded a plane to Tokyo and stayed just long enough to get over my jet lag, overwhelm my senses, and expand my perceptions before returning to the other side of the world. In the few days I spent in Japan I was immersed in one of the most interesting and engaging cultures I've ever experienced. I learned so much about a nation I had otherwise only equated to good sushi, and this trip left me...

This past weekend was the Ring of Fire competition in Massachusetts. It was a fantastic comp with some sick routes. The competitors present were as fierce and well recognizable as the competitors at SCS nationals. These competitors and the crowd created an atmosphere that was both relaxed and also exciting. I’m so glad to have had the opportunity to compete in such an amazing event! There is no doubt as to whether or not I will attend it again next year!

After 5 weeks of clinging to sandstone mini jugs and getting pumped out of our minds in the Red River Gorge, my partner Tom and I have moved on to another classic American sport climbing destination: Rifle, Colorado. Making the transition from typically easy route reading and grippy rock in the RRG to the cryptic beta and polished limestone in Rifle was not an easy one. I envy the climber with the talent to immediately evolve and feel strong and accomplished when switching between such drastic styles.

Over the past month, I have been able to do a lot of training, coaching, and setting indoors. The Touchstone Bouldering Series finale was held at the recently opened Dogpatch Boulders in early May. I first participated at my first international bouldering competitions with 2 world cups. First stage for me was Log Dragomer / Slovenia and one week after Innsbruck / Austria. Last year, I found out on Lead World Cups that I needed more power to improve my climbing. That's why I wanted to participate at these comps, as kind of extra-motivation but not as real goal. I had a great time, even if my results weren't very satisfying I could discover my weaknesses and get more international experience....

The 30th annual Clackamas River Festival took place this year the weekend of May 18/19 2013. The two day event is part of the Western Whitewater Championship Series, a summer long series of races across the Northwest. With only three races left after Clackfest, paddlers came out in full force to gain points, and enjoy the festivities: rafters, stand-up paddleboarders, driftboaters, whitewater kayakers, even inner-tubers!

For the last 2 days we have been on a wind hold, with winds 30km/h gusting 50 km/h it's just not a good idea to jump off a building in the middle of downtown Istanbul. However, the sun is still shining, and we have all had the chance to go check out the city. Last night we all went out to dinner together, and then to a bar/belly-dancing show! It was a great time last night with 55 BASE jumpers taking on the town! Today...

I’ve been watching videos of this competition for years, and man did it look cool. After experiencing the event firsthand now, I can say with absolute certainty that it is the sickest, raddest, most awesome bouldering competition I have ever competed in. EVER. I guess you could say I had a good time. Dominion Riverrock has been going on for several years now as an outdoor sports and music festival located on the James River in Richmond, Virginia. Two years ago, the event organizers decided to...
