After a very successful trip to Bishop, I have resumed my Southern Utah explorative journeys. Last week I was informed by a friend of some potential granite boulders, worthy of checking out. Sure enough after 2 full days of reconnaissance and development, I have dubbed the Browse boulders a new bouldering area. erfect granite pockets cover every side of every boulder in this new zone making a rarity, so to speak for granite that is. The majority of the established problems are in the v0 to v8 range, making the Browse boulders a perfect future destination for...
Way to go Alex! With the help of her Five ten 5Xs Alex Johnson wins the first Bouldering World Cup of 2010. "During a few rainy days in Greifensee, a small village near Zürich, Switzerland, the world’s best boulderers were in attendance to battle it out at the first bouldering world cup of the year. On May 15th, Alex Johnson of the US surprised herself and the European audience by winning the competition."
We call it delicious. When wind, weather, sun rock and body come together just right, I can climb beyond any of my natural means. I don’t have many climbing dreams but when I do, I’m weightless, without gravity floating. I had one last night – driving me up an ancient and beautiful Sierra Arete I saw last spring. It’s a granite tower: 10 or 15 meters into the sky, V10 or so, perfect and waiting. We’re going BACK babies!
Greg Minnaar takes First Place at the season opening World Cup in his custom made SPD Minnaar shoes. He put together a brilliant run to win the season opener in Maribor, Slovenia on May 16, 2010 in the most dismal conditions on a course Greg would describe as “the hardest course I’ve ever ridden because of the mud and rain.”
A couple months back, I had the pleasure to set routes for a Big Up produced indoor climbing video shot out in Massachusetts, called “The Insiders.” If you haven’t seen it online yet, check it out. It really depicts indoor climbing, something nearly all of us do multiple times a week, in a cool way.
What started out as a trip to honor his sister’s memory, Greg Mortenson’s climb of K2 quickly turned into a life altering experience. Author of Three Cups of Tea, This former climber and mountaineer has made a difference improving lives of those in the Middle East since the mid-90’s advocating peace through education. While receiving over 2,000 requests a year, Olympia, WA was honored to be of the 140 schools chosen for him to visit. Taking advantage of this opportunity I got the chance to hear him share his inspirational story.
