Living in Portland - Joseph Gifford

Living in Portland - Joseph Gifford
October 21, 2013 -

I've finally come to the next step in my life, college and moving away from Austin Texas. I am now going to school in Portland Oregon at the University of Portland. So I packed up all my gear and got a sick hook up from Austin’s local Backwoods. They gave me some great gear before I left, that I use almost every day. Portland is known to be the sister city of Austin, all the hipsters and weird stuff make me feel a little more at home. I’m excited because It’s also an entirely new climbing scene for me...

Portland Boulder Rally - Nicholas Milburn

Portland Boulder Rally - Nicholas Milburn
October 17, 2013 -

As I'm sure most of you know the Portland Boulder Rally was this past weekend and it was awesome! This was the third time the comp was held and the first time I went. I made a last minute decision to go and I'm glad I did. When I first got the gym there was all kinds of fun stuff going on. There was a tent with sponsors, free stuff and food. Pro athletes were being interviewed. Posters were being signed. In all it was pretty cool. It seemed like Boulder temporarily relocated to Portland for the weekend and competition...

World Wingsuit League - Ellen Brennan

World Wingsuit League - Ellen Brennan
October 16, 2013 -

Just made it home from the biggest wingsuiting event in the world, the WWL. The event was full of its ups and downs. Sadly, we lost our good friend Vick on a practice round the first day. He was a great guy with amazing energy and a huge heart. He is going to be horribly missed in the BASE community. But we knew that he would want us to continue with the event, so after taking a day off to mourn his loss we got back on the horse and continued the event. The course consists...

Last Week of Semester Holidays in Frankenjura - Christian Muench

Last Week of Semester Holidays in Frankenjura - Christian Muench
October 16, 2013 -  Muench

The last week of semester holidays turned out to be not too bad actually. The weather report for the second half of the second week in October was so bad that - although we only had one rest day after the last trip to “Frankenjura” - we made our way back there on Monday, 7 October 2013, again. The following three days of climbing there where full of sun and good weather then. As we came back to “Bärenschlucht” because Martin wanted to try “Poseidon” (8a+) again, and because I definitely didn’t want to try “Desaster” (8b+) in the sun,...

Hueco Psyched! - Jena Lupia

Hueco Psyched! - Jena Lupia
October 16, 2013 -

Hope everyone is crushing and livin it up! I have started a new semester of nursing school and it is by far the most difficult. All my classes are in the am which is helpful for climbing and training later on in the day. I have been strength training for a few weeks now and really am starting to feel the powerful benefits! My motivation is Hueco for 2 1/2 weeks in January! So I have been trying to run, strength, and climb outside when I get the time. I have been climbing...

5.14 First Ascents in Guadalacazar - Urs Moosmuller

5.14 First Ascents in Guadalacazar - Urs Moosmuller
October 14, 2013 -

The next cave we visited is a massive 80m cave deep in the wilderness surrounding Guadalacazar. The cave holds the largest amount of routes and some of the best. The bottom of the cave is filled with hundreds of stalagtites ranging from very small stalagtites to massive 4m long stalagtites. Just seeing this impressive natural phenomenon is a unique experience. At the deepest part of the cave you can find inscriptions from the local people dating back to the 1800’s. The cave was originally used for ceremonial purposes for the recently deceased, but now sees very little attention and...
