The year 2013 is just about one month over. I am back in Boulder after spending the holidays with my family in Colorado Springs and needless to say it does not feel like winter in Colorado (well aside from the last two cold and semi-snowy days that we have had). Sadly most places in Colorado still do not have enough snow to open the whole mountain for ski season to really begin, though in terms of climbing this hasn't been too horrible. Over break I was able to spend a week with my family overseas, sadly I...
This winter break I took my annual trip to Hueco Tanks for a little more than a week. I drove out to Hueco with my coach John Myrick and the ARG climbing team to camp out and climb. For the six days that we climbed we only went to East and East Spur which kept us quite occupied, most of the climbing days were pretty good in terms of weather and sending. The first day our guide took us to a new climb called Mad Bunny Face that was a V8 but there was also an alternate climb kinda...
Begin part one of my long awaited South East Asia trip. I've been wanting to travel to this area for more than half my life. The stunning tropics. Warm humid air. Big cities. Rural farmlands. Monkeys. Palm trees. Ten flights. It is to be my biggest adventure yet. And I get to do it with friends.First stop is Borneo. I arrive after a full day of travel. 6 of us split a cab to the lovely Wisma Sanyan building. I'm delirious by this point. I feel like I lost an entire day, but we push on. Straight to the...
At the beginning of this month I went to Red Rocks, NV. Which is one of my favorite places to climb. I love the sandstone, the amazing incut crimps, and the proximity to Las Vegas. Although the weather was much cooler than I expected, especially in the canyons. I was able to climb at the Kraft Boulders, in the sun, every day. Paul and I were shown some new development up Gateway Canyon. One of the new problems is a fun little V6 called Three Steps to the Door. I got the FFA!
I have been in Durango, Colorado bouldering and exploring new areas. Turtle lake has been my favorite place here so far. Driving up to the bouldering from the road is definitely a plus. The weather has been very hit or miss and the new snow has created lots of mud and ice. My first day up here was mostly just exploring and getting adjusted to the skin friendly rock. Durango has these huge towering boulders everywhere with some of the best quality movement I have experienced in a while.
Training for SCS season can be very crucial. Facing my fears everyday can be tough. Getting out of my comfort zone from 40 feet off of the ground is nerve-racking for me. Getting pumped half way up the route is my favorite feeling, that is when I can push myself the to the best potential. I have many goals this year for sport climbing!
