This August I spent three weeks in the mecca of climbing, Frankenjura! Without doubt, the best climbing trip I've ever done.

As summer comes to an end and fall begins it’s a good time to reminisce on the past accomplishments of a short Alaskan summer. Here in Juneau it rains over 220 days a year so when I say short I mean really short. This past summer has been possibly the most productive summer of climbing that Juneau has ever seen. In all there were probably 70 new boulder problems added to the small number of already existing problems.

Last Monday morning a box covered by squares of many languages was delivered to my door. Unable to wait, I parted with my oatmeal to slip on the new Anasazis. While ‘slipping’ might have been a bit of an understatement, quickdraws did the trick leaving my feet snugly surrounded by problem crushing performance.

The Nordic countries are awesome, and the people are always super nice. I was invited to the Norwegian Rock Masters competition and just had to go for the crack, not really for the comp. As it turned out the comp was great too, I ended up 2nd.

I’ve never been to America before let alone going to New York! I was very excited about the whole trip and couldn’t wait to get riding at Windham. We arrived quite late on the Monday evening but I had a good 12hrs sleep! We spent Tuesday playing my first ever game of mini-golf. It was great speaking to the locals in Windham, this is the first...

My brother and I headed towards the beautiful mountains of Sequoia National Park in search of new climbs and cooler temps. There were no boulders near the campsites but just 3 miles up the trail to Eagle Lake we found ourselves amidst a boulder field. The temps were perfect because the hike up to Eagle Lake placed us at around 10,000 feet. In the surrounding area of Eagle Lake were large granite boulders slightly polished by the snow, which was still lightly...

I got back to my beautiful home state of Vermont almost two weeks ago. My girlfriend, Jenny and I were driving with ambition the first day heading home, driving 22 of the first 24 hours. To start we were not far in front of Max Zolowhatitcan and eventually well behind the man whose last name I couldn't tell you how to spell. I was very impressed with the event the gym produced. It was very easy to have a good time, almost 100 climbers competed for 3 hours in a 'redpoint' format to qualify for a chance at Finals. In the end 8 climbers in each gender passed into the finals. I wasn't expecting much as I haven't been climbing at all in gym in the last month, let alone not much at all in the last year! Anyway, the focus was set on having a good time and it seemed...

Five Ten Paddling Athlete Shon Bollock tells us the latest with the Shasta Boyz.

Well with the start of school things are a little silent up here in Mt. Shasta but we found some time to go and surf at the School House wave on the Klamath off I-96. Myself, Ben Stookesberry, Chris Korbulic, and Chiseki rallied out for an afternoon surf.

Climbing is unique in the sense that there is a competitive side, but also a relaxed side to it as well. For me climbing incorporates every aspect of that, being way up in the Rockies where not many people enjoy the rock the same way “us climbers” do, to the energy/psych the comp scene brings; new problems, the crowds, food, and fun what’s not to love?

Squamish, then to the Alpine...

Summer seems to be the season that pass quickest for me. July and August, in particular, zip by. Guiding, climbing, and barbeques… it’s over before I know it. Things are cooling down here in Squamish. Soon the rains will come, it’ll be time to leave.
