This past weekend I was at the Nor'Easter event in Lincoln, NH. Now, I've been to a few events before, many of them at an international level, and I must say that I have standards for being impressed. I was impressed at the Nor'Easter. Out of the three competitions on the Unified Bouldering Championships circuit Unified Bouldering Championships, the final stop stands out as not only the best of the three, but one of the best US competitions I've done.

Fall, coming soon to boulders near you!lk

I wore a jacket this morning. Granted it was 6:30 am when I left the house, but as temps haven't dropped below 90 in Chattanooga yet, it felt wonderful. And the annual Hound Ears comp is coming up this weekend - it will be the first time most of the southern boys have climbed outside in a couple months and it marks the beginning of the season.

To recap on this summer, I placed 5th at the 2010 SCS Nationals in Lead at the Stone Summit Climbing Gym in Atlanta, GA. I made the 2010 US Team for MYA Lead and had an invite to go to the IFSC Youth World Championships in Edinburgh, Scotland in September. I was able to fund raise for the trip, but that was not the only thing that was required to make this trip count. I had to put more effort into training than I ever had before. ...

Last thursday was a good day! I woke up psyched and everyone else seemed to be on the same program. Me, Nalle, and Chad decided to head up to Mount Evans, aka Wolverine Land, despite the intimidating snow storm that was predicted online. A few hours later, we were in the boulders and freezing. Luckily, NO snow! I was more psyched than ever and decided today would be the the day to finish some boulders.

This trip was one of those that I would do all over again, despite its whirlwind nature. I arrived in Boston on Thursday evening and met up with Alex Johnson to drive to Loon Mountain, NH for the Unified Bouldering Championship event. We drove 2.5 hours to the small town of Lincoln, NH, a quaint “mountain” town. The White Mountains are a far cry from the mountains I am used to,...

Really nice competition and big event for the world of climbing in Austria this weekend: the European Championship. Lead, boulder and speed, the high level of sportclimbing was meeting for an exeptional demonstration in competition.

Ouch, my finger!

I hurt my finger back in Feb, just before the comps were going to start. I was feeling really strong and psyched, and then suddenly I could hardly pull on jugs. How frustrating. I limped through the comp season and ended up doing pretty badly (surprise surprise). However, in the 2 comps where my finger felt ok I managed to get into the semi finals – not too bad considering the lack of preparation.

Which is a good thing really! My first pair of shoes were the EB's, and back then they were awesome. That was like 30 years ago. Recently I saw a friend had some and was psyched to see how they were. Putting them on felt familiar and surprisingly well fitting. I felt like I could go out and climb hard! They were in great condition with a good edge, a collectors item! Setting off I was confident, but then two moves later all the progress in climbing shoes became very obvious!

PinkBike.com had nothing but good things to say about our 2011 line of DH/FR shoes.

"When Five Ten stormed onto the scene ten years ago they really transformed the world of flat pedals. Back then the Impacts were the only shoes available ... Now the range of shoes aimed at riders has increased massively, as well as carrying much improved styling and now there are even SPD shoes available for those who prefer to be clipped to the bike."

Here are a couple of pics of my current contenders. They are wildly different, but impossible to choose between... Let me know what you think.
