Introducing Newbies to Climbing at Grizzly Dome - Seth Rogers

Introducing Newbies to Climbing at Grizzly Dome - Seth Rogers
September 09, 2013 -  Seth Rogers

Every Labor Day weekend, my extended family has a campout in the Feather River Canyon near Tobin, California, where my grandfather used to live.  There’s a great place to climb nearby called Grizzly Dome right next to Highway 70 and I’ve done a few climbs there over the last few years.  It’s hard to find information on the crag but I finally found a good guide called Grizzly Dome by Ben Gohlke.  You can get it from Mountain Sports in Chico.

It's been a long road but I've finally managed to consolidate all of the footage from my productive trips to Switzerland in the Fall of 2012 and Spring of 2013. Switzerland is one of my favorite bouldering areas in the world. The perfectly featured and smooth granite blocs are designed for hard bouldering. From my beginnings as a climber, it was a dream of mine to climb a number of the lines featured in the film. Legendary boulders such a New Base Line (V14), Practice Of The Wild (V15), and The Story of...

Scotland is blessed with loads of rock and loads of rock types. Yet despite its wealth of rock Scotland has rarely been the testing ground of international rock climbing standards at least not by those looking on from the outside and is almost never on anyone's list of destinations.

I hope that is true, because I have been pushing my body harder than ever before and existing in a state of perma-tiredness… Getting up at 5 or 6am every morning to train in the cool morning hours and make the most of the day… My training cycle has involved grueling circuits, sprint intervals, long hill runs, tread-wall sessions and a LOT of climbing. Completing this cycle has required a huge amount of energy and focus, and I have even been relishing my few rest days more than ever before…

August 2013: Summer Adventures Around the World Part II - Will Roderick
September 06, 2013 -  Will Roderick

Picking up from where I left off, I arrived with my brother, Mel, in Scotland in early August. After catching up with family at our grandmother’s house, we set to work in the garden. And working in this garden is a surprisingly daunting task; centuries old walls surround the enormous area seemingly filled with just about every fruit, vegetable, and flower that could grow in Scotland. We helped out with quite a bit of garden/farm work over the next few days, from digging hundreds of potatoes to feeding hens and collecting eggs to maintaining the garden. And after about a...

This problem is an important realization for me. I tried it in the summer. So, the weather was too hot and the holds were not good at all. Also, I could not crimp with my left hand because my finger pulley was not in shape. All those elements have done this V10 harder than I expected it.I tried "The power of the powerless" four sessions. The first day, I did not understand anything. The first move was too hard but at the end of the day, I understood that the movement needed a special body position (compress but turning...
