Argentina Part One - Jon Cardwell

Argentina Part One - Jon Cardwell
April 11, 2012 -

I first got word from some climbers about Argentina a few years ago.  One of them is my friend Cameron Maier from Colorado.  He traveled there a couple years ago mostly to explore the beautiful country and experience the culture.  He said the mix of big mountains, small vintage villages, and daily asados (BBQ's) was more than worth the visit.  It wasn't until this January, aside from seeing news about Cerro Torre, that I heard about Argentina and its mass potential for climbing.

I just came back from Red Rocks. Where I had the opportunity to climb hang out with some friends and off course be part of the RRR, this being my 5 year going to the event. My clinics where a total success and both days they where full!!! People where super psyched to learn how to climb cracks and off withs, and we all had a great times getting our knees, arms and hole bodies stuck in wide cracks. The grandstones and the Anasazi high top where the weapon of choice for the mission. Can't...

Last weekend I competed in the SCS 2012 open national championships at movement climbing and fitness in boulder Colorado. I had a great time competing and I’m really excited about placing 4th. The comp was a 2 day event at movement with a flash format qualifier on qualifier on Friday and an onsite style final on Saturday night. The qualifier consisted of 2 routes, for the 2 routes we were split up into two groups, one which started on the first route and one which started on the second. In between routes we had a break of at least...

This weekend was SCS Nationals. It was so much fun and it was great seeing everyone! I came in second, which is something I'm really psyched about! The routes were awesome and I've always love climbing at Movement; it's a great gym. I didn't do as well I as I wanted to in qualifiers, but I feel like I did the best I could have during finals. The finals route was probably a 5.13a, and I was a little sketched out in the beginning, but by the end I felt confident. I love rope climbing because by the time...

This past weekend I flew to Boulder, Colorado to compete in the Sport Climbing National Championships at Movement, Colorado. This was Movement’s second year hosting the event, and in October, 2011, the IFSC World Cup took place here as well. Needless to say, Movement does a great job with competition venues and garnering enthusiastic crowds.

Sean Villanueva, Stephane Hanssens, Jean-Louis Wertz and I just came back to civilization after 38 days in the jungle. We had a really good adventure, very different from all the other expeditions we have done in the past. The weather, the rock, the jungle, the indigenes, the animals and this incredible wall of the Tuyuren waterfall made up for some very exciting moments. We managed to put up two new free routes on the Tuyuren waterfall wall, one on the left side "Maria Rosa" and one on the right "Apichavai". When we first came out of the...
