Trad Climbing in Zion - Angela Payne

Trad Climbing in Zion - Angela Payne
November 03, 2014 -

I’ve spent a good portion of 2014 competing and bouldering, as I have done for many years. Last week, however, I stepped away from the boulders and competitions and into a different realm of climbing for a moment. I wanted to learn some trad climbing basics, so that if I find myself in a beautiful place in the future with the opportunity to climb something bigger, I might eventually be able to take advantage of it. To begin the learning process, I headed to Zion National Park with a fellow Mountain Hardwear athlete, Cheyne Lempe. ...

Triple Crown Part 2: Stone Fort! - Francesca Metcalf

Triple Crown Part 2: Stone Fort! - Francesca Metcalf
October 30, 2014 -

Last weekend was the second leg of the Triple Crown Bouldering Series, which was held at Stone Fort in Chattanooga TN. I like to consider this area my “home-crag” since it is the best and closest bouldering area to me. Unlike Hound Ears, where the last Triple Crown was held and which I only get to climb at once a year if I'm lucky, I know the climbs at Stone Fort pretty well. I was able to take a few weekend trips there this fall, so I had an idea of what climbs I wanted to get on for...

Feels Like Home - Jimmy Webb in Rocklands, South Africa

Feels Like Home - Jimmy Webb in Rocklands, South Africa
October 27, 2014 -

After Jimmy's stellar 2013 season in South Africa, we knew the next time he had better find some more boulders to climb.  Otherwise he would have to siege himself on the most anti style and crimpiest lines he can find until he climbed out the whole area.

Summer Climbing In The NW Pt 2 - Joseph Gifford

Summer Climbing In The NW Pt 2 - Joseph Gifford
October 23, 2014 -

After spending two weeks of our summer in Yosemite Dalan and I made our way towards Lake Tahoe and up the West Coast. The first place we climbed at in Tahoe was the lovers leap wall, which was for the most part trad. We first did a really cool 5.8 with some crazy jug holds and then got on a classic 11 with crimpy dike climbing. While in the town of strawberry which was where the climbing was we met the owner of a convenient store by the name of squirrel and he gave me and Dalan some super...

Jeté du Canard V11, Gatineau park in Luskville - Hans Christian Montenegro

Jeté du Canard V11, Gatineau park in Luskville - Hans Christian Montenegro
October 22, 2014 -

Here you are, the V11 Jeté du Canard boulder from the Gatineau park in Luskville. There are a few repetitions for this boulder because it is hard to do and hard to find. You have to walk at least 40 minutes trekking up a mountain with yours crash pads. The first ascent proposed a v11 then, two people did it. They have proposed a v10. I propose a V11. I think we need more repetitions for getting a consensus. The problem looks easy but is very hard for short people. Actually, short people have to use very...

Hound Ears '14! - Francesca Metcalf

Hound Ears '14! - Francesca Metcalf
October 13, 2014 -  Francesca Metcalf

Last weekend was the first competition of this year's Triple Crown Bouldering Series, which was held at Hound Ears in North Carolina. Hound Ears is only open to the public one day per year, and this leg of the series was canceled last year, so it had been two years since I got to climb at this awesome crag. For that reason I was pretty excited for this competition since it's at one of my favorite climbing areas.
