Summer Recap - Brad Weaver

Summer Recap - Brad Weaver
September 17, 2013 -

This summer has been a blur of route setting/coaching, climbing, and more route setting /coaching. In June I had the opportunity to work with a really talented group of kids here at Stone Summit for a Pre-Nationals Training Camp. Youth climbers traveled from all across the U.S. to attend the camp and we had a really great turnout. It was great working with the next generation of climbers and I’m really impressed by their abilities! Everybody that attended was a pleasure to work with and you could see that they were all hungry for climbing. ...

Sierra Carroll - Rain, Rain, Go Away.....

Sierra Carroll - Rain, Rain, Go Away.....
September 17, 2013 -

Rain rain go away, after almost a week of rain that is what many of us in the front range have been thinking. With the sun finally coming out today everyone signed in relief. The past few days in the Boulder and Front Range communities has been quite eventful. With this deadly and menacing flood on the area there has been a lot of sitting inside and hoping for the rain to go away. Well today it finally did, though not without taking some precious areas with it. The flooding has destroyed businesses, roads, and home along with open...

Projecting Begins - Urs Moosmuller

Projecting Begins - Urs Moosmuller
September 14, 2013 -

Finally after several days of work my project was completely bolted and ready for attempts. For me this is one of the hardest routes I have attempted and right off the ground you hit a hard V8 boulder problem on small crimps to a perfect no hand knee bar rest at the base of the 15m horizontal ceiling. An awkward 12+ section hugging a hanging block leads to an 8 move V9 boulder problem to a good double knee bar rest. Half way out the roof you get to relax for a minute before the six move long V11...

How did I wind up in this situation… did I not plan correctly? I did things correctly. It has been 5 days and there are still no clothes. Not even a phone call telling me my bags have arrived. As the scene unfolds… I am sitting in a shower huddled over with a bar of soap scrubbing a white t-shirt as carefully as I can to get all the dirt and ash stains out. On the right hand side of me is a bucket of boiling water that was generously made by fire… due to the fact that hot water...

Mallorca Final Week - Andrew Baldwin

Mallorca Final Week - Andrew Baldwin
September 12, 2013 -

Wednesday July 24th - Preparations are Being MadeI awoke to the sun beating down on my face through the window. There was silence throughout the house. No sounds of Alison making coffee and no sounds of Felix narrating his life. It was just Madeline and I. As sad as it was to have them both gone, It was nice to have a quite house. Maddy soon woke up after me and we went to make breakfast. With the smell of bacon cooking in the air, I sat at the kitchen table eating toast with my eyes deep in the...

"If There are no Rocks There is no Happiness" - Bernd Zangerl

These words of an iranian climber i will never forget. they describe the lebensgefuehl of many young people here in iran. At first however the situation is not obvious. everywhere i meet friendly and helpful people, who laugh often and are always joking around. but after long discussions i become aware that their dreams of life are limited by the isolated space they have learned to deal with. Finally, after a 48 hour train drive we arrive at the border to Iran. all passengers of the train have to leave and carry their luggage to the check post. hours are...
